I started my pre=op 12-21-12. had surgery 12-28=12 and get to start purees tomorrow. the only thing I have been craving is 1 meatball with a spoon of sauce and a little cheese. but I don't know that I want to throw that into the blender .I have purees for 3 weeks.  My doc put purees and mushies together I guess. So anyone have any good ideas? Thanks Polly

For Christmas I did some turkey, broth, and a little bit of green bean casserole. No fried onions in it. You can season it up to however you like it. It turned out pretty good!

Also, you can cook up the ground meat or chicken for your meatballs, just not FORM it, put it in the blender, take it out,  add the sauce, then sprinkle a little cheese on it.

You can stick your meatball, sauce and cheese in the blender -- but I'd do that closer to the end of your purees, rather than the beginning because the tomato sauce could be bothersome, and unless you made the meatball yourself, it could have a lot of carbs and fillers that your stomach might find a little distressing so soon after surgery.   When you do it, I recommend quartering the meatball and putting it in with just a little sauce.  Puree it.  Take it out, put additional sauce and finely grated cheese, then heat.

I used primarily soups with beef or chicken, pureed them, and added protein powder.  I actually fished all of the potatoes out the progresso beef soups (since all seemed to have potatoes!).  I also had chili (but it was a very soupy chili to begin with).

Basically, the rules for my plan were to put anything you want (well, as long as it isn't rice, potatoes, dessert etc.) into the blender, and as long as it was a puree, it was fine!

Turns out, I apparently have a sleeve made of cast iron, so your sleeve may be more selective!

Hi Polly,
Gosh a week goes by fast doesn't it? Check out the world according to eggface and bariatric foodie for some great ideas for the mushie/puree stage.

Most anything you can throw into a blender with enough liquid and make it a puree.

I did beef stew in the crockpot. Some met (very tender), a couple slices of potato, and some carrots. Added water as needed. Held flavor really well.

One-percent cottage cheese pureed nicely in my little food processor.

I wouldn't recommend pureeing tuna, though.  :-p

I did the beef stew (for after I'd gotten my band) with the protein powder...ricotta cheese w/cinnamon and sugar sub...cottage cheese with pineapple juice (not sure if the acid would bother a tummy though)...chicken soup (I make it homemade..whole chicken, carrots, onions, celery, turnips, canned tomatoes...along with the chicken bouillon for extra flavor..I usually add already cooked rice or pasta..but after the surgery, keep it out?)  broccoli and cheese...maybe over mash potatoes (the broccoli and cheese pureed of course)  hope this helps :)
