Protein Vs. Calories

If you're still a little below your protein goal but creeping up on your calorie goal, which do you favor? Add a few calories to get your protein in, or just not worry about your protein in favor of less calories? I'm just wondering!

My protein goal is 100, (but I'm usually happy in the high eighties or nineties.) and my calorie goal is 400-800. I hate going over 650, though.

My version of the truth, is that if you can get at least 70 grams of protein in, stay on the lower calorie side for as long as you can.

Thanks! I'm just trying to figure out what matters more, and I feel like I don't have a whole lot of time to experiment on my own. I really want to use this first 6-8 months to the greatest advantage I can.

Excellent attitude and I would agree with you, you don't have time to experiment, the window is short.  Keep your calories under 800 for sure and even lower in the first three months if you can.  Get in at least 70 grams of protein and keep the carbs under 20 if possible, and under 40 for certain.  This is not forever, it is just for now.  You can do this.  Let me know if you need anything, I really like to support this type of attitude and dedication.  Hugs.

Oh, thank you! This made me smile. I was actually about to ask you what plan you suggested, so this was good timing :). I've been doing under 40 carbs but I'm going to switch to under 20. And if I'm not aiming for such lofty protein goals, I don't think I'll have a problem even keeping my calories lower than 600. Thanks again!

I would ask my nut how much protein I need  you don't want to eat your muscles and organs , better to lose a little slower and stay healthy , the older you are the harder it is to gain muscle back, better not to lose any

Two things that work for me are canned albacore tuna or boiled shrimp. 3 oz can white tuna in water has 80 calories and 18 gms protein. I usually eat 2.5 oz or 2 oz.  Shrimp is 11 gms protein in 2 oz portion. I try to have these on hand and eat them frequently. Oh, shrimp is 51 calories in 2 oz portion!
