In June, 2012 my A1C was 6.8 and I was on glucophage.

I  have NOT taken the glucophage since surgery.

Two weeks ago I had my 3-month post-op labs done and I just got the results back. My A1C is 5.8 !!

I am SO happy about that number!!

Wonderful!! One of the nicest NSVs for me has been that low A1C reading. At my highest, it was 10. something. Last reading was 5.2. I am happy for the remission, and hopeful that it may be permanent. May it be so for you!

Miss150, your NSVs are very encouraging as well...I was shocked one time when my a1c was in the 11s   Last set of lab work, it was down to the 9s...I think the lowest I have had since diagnosed with type 2 diabetes was in the 7s

may I ask how long you had been diabetic before your surgery...and what types of meds were you on pre-surgery?

No problem.  I was diagnosed diabetic 8 years prior to surgery (most likely full blown 2 years prior to that-just too chicken to get it confirmed.)  I was taking metformin 1000 2xday and large dose glipizide 2xday.

thanks, Miss150...I have been diagnosed myself for about 10 years and am also taking 1000 MG of Metformin twice per day and 40 units of lantus insulin each day...hearing of your success in being in remission is definitely encouraging to me and gives me hope...I pray for your continued success
