I'm 3 years out lost 120 lbs very happy about all that!!  But, have had a few gallbladder attacks one lasting 7 hours (awful) went today and had ultrasound done - they found 15 gallstones!!  So, guess I will be having that little annoying organ removed in the near future!!  uuuggghhhhh

I had attacks for 8 years before they ever figured out what was wrong, my last attack before removing my gallbladder lasted over 24 hours.  Believe me, even though it sucks that you have to go under again it is SOOOOOO worth having that stupid organ out of your body!

Wow 8 years!  I don't know how you dealt with it.  I'm seeing the gastric doctor in a week and decide then when it will come out.  What bothers me is I just had kidney surgery 4 months ago, my stomach is starting to look like a road  map! lol

I was having the attacks before wls - so I totally sympathize!  They are awful.  The good news is, once it is out, you will feel great!  Sorry you are going through this!

Well the good news is that there won't be much else they can take out.  As a matter of fact when you are discussing this with your doctor ask him if they can take out the rest of the problems before they are even a problem.  Get everything removed in one more shot ... of course I am kidding about that ... lol.

When you do have your discussion you really want to be an advocate of having this surgery.  Don't wait as eventually it will likely have to come out.  If you wait too long as I did it won't be a laparoscopic surgery but a bigger deal where they have to put a 10 in*****ision on your stomach.  Mine was about to burst and they had to do an emergency surgery where they attempted laparoscopically doing it but couldn't as it was way too inflamed and about to burst.

does anyone know if there is anything we can do to avoid gallstones?  I'm on ursodiol as a preventative measure (even though this makes me uneasy with my tiny tummy and ulcers).  But i'm taking in A LOT of milk producs through whey shakes, milk, yogurt, cheese, etc etc ... so i worry about having a bunch of stones forming - despite being relatively lot fat diet..  I've had 2 stones in the past (like 7 years ago) ... but they couldnt see them lately on ultrasound ... not sure if that was just because of my 'body habatus' aka being fat, or because they are gone.

Sucks! I just got mine out 2.5 weeks ago. It was jam packed with small stones - too many to count and all swollen and stuff. Bleh. I knew it would probably happen...and it did. Good luck! The attacks suck. My last one - when I finally went to the ER - lasted for almost 12 hours and came in two very huge waves. It was awful!

Do majority of WLS patients suffer from stones? Is it best to remove the gallbladder while getting VSG surgery?
