Interesting read: ASMBS position statement on VSG (data geeks like me, rejoice!)
VSG on 06/12/13
It's dry reading, but chock full of scientific, not opinion or anecdotal, data on complication rates, comparison to banding and RNY, reduction/elimination of diabetes, GERD, %EWL, long term success rates over 8 years, and bougie size.

Sleeved 6/12/13 - 100 pounds lost to get to goal!

This might not entirely answer your question, but, it might help. Based on my goal convo with the doc, they took my "baseline" weight of 262 (on their scale) which was my pre diet weight as the value from which they expect me to lose 100#. So, one way to look at it is that the preop diet gave me at 15# headstart on my goal!
Not sure how other docs calculate it.
