Post-surgery Hiccups, Anyone?

Anyone ever get the hiccups after surgery?

I worry about getting the hiccups after surgery because I get the hiccups a lot and about half of the time I get them, they're violent and painful - like my lungs are being sucked out of me. Are hiccups an issue immediately post-surgery?

Not sure if its a standard side effect, but I hiccup now a lot after I had surgery, especially when my sleeve is empty. It's my cue that its time to eat.  The hiccups don't subside until after I've eaten and the food has cleared my esophagus.

I'll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and I noticed that I'm getting hiccups a lot more now than I ever did before.

I get them too!!! The dr said it's your sleeve spasming and apparently nothing to get excited about

I would get hiccups very badly after surgery. This tapers off and doesn't happen too often now. But yes, it was painful in the beginning.

I am over 2 years out and I will still get them sometimes if I eat too fast or too much.

I hiccup after every meal. Especially if I've eaten too fast.

I get them now if I eat too quickly, and a single hiccup is sometimes my cue to quit eating if I am overdoing it a bit.

I remember getting a particulary long bout of hiccups shortly after surgery and worrying about busting a stitch or something, but I was fine (just a little more sore).

I am two weeks out.  15-20 times/ day I will have a single strong and mildly painful hiccup.  It could be any time of day, sometimes when eating, sometimes just randomly.  I have only had a persistent hiccup once that lasted about 2-3 minutes and resolved after drinking water for a few minutes.  Prior to surgery I used to get hiccups allllll the time.  These single hiccups are different though.  Last week they were more painful with pain extending all the way up my sternum.  This week they are just an annoyance mostly.  I had a hiatal hernia repair so that could be part of it.  Did you have a hernia?

I don't,think I have a hernia. Would the UGI scan you have to get done prior to surgery show a hernia?

My only concern is that if my hiccups can be unbearably painful now, before surgery, I can't imagine how painful they might be after surgery.

I guess I'll just have to sip things really REALLY slow in the beginning.
