Hi OH Family ... well I had a horrible gallbladder attack out of NOWHERE last week which quickly led to them removing it! I've never had any issues with my gallbladder and I'm now 5 months post op with the Sleeve. Recovery has been good; however, I'm constantly having to run to the potty after eating ANYTHING! It's to the point that I don't even want to eat anything. I tried just doing protein shakes and the same thing happens.

If anyone has had their gallbladder removed, did you experience this? If so, how long did it last? As mentioned I just had surgery on the 7th of this month. Thanks so much in advance!

I had my gallbladder removed in 1990.  To this day, if I eat anything with a high fat content and/or a lot of fiber I am in the bathroom shortly after eating.  I also don't tolerate dairy very well.  It will get better over time but it might be with you for a long time.  It is just something that my husband and I have gotten use to and he knows that I do not like to eat and travel for this very reason so we always try and kill some time after eating if we are traveling and/or he knows he will be rushing to get me to a bathroom.  I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but it is my experience.

Hi there...I had my gallbladder removed in 2008 after my first son was born. Immediately after the surgery, my bowel function actually improved for a while, but now, I experience the same symptoms you describe if I eat too much fat. I haven't had WLS yet, but I was kind of hoping that it may help with my lack of gallbladder. If you google gallbladder diet, you can find some homeopathic websites that may give you some ideas about herbs or supplements you can take. Of course, I'd check with your PCP and your surgeon too, just to make certain they're fine for a sleeve.

I hope you feel better soon!

I don't know if this will help anyone looking to have the surgery, but my doc prescribes 6-months of a drug that will prevent gall bladder problems post surgery...just saying.  I am pre-op but just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is interested.

I had my gallbladder removed shortly after I had the lapband some years ago. mine had ruptured actually As soon as my surgeon open me up I am going to say that the bathroom issues last about 3 months afterwards. it gets better as you change your eating habits
