Anyone have low blood pressure since surgery
I went to see my PCP and have my 6 month labs done. Haven't gotten the lab results yet but she was concerned about my low blood pressure. Prior to surgery, it was always perfect. It was 90/60. I have also been experiencing fatigue and light headedness and she says that is why. She suggested adding more sodium to my diet. Any ideas on how I can do this without adding calories and not adding a bunch of salt to my food. I am not a fan of salty.
Mine isn't quite that low, but close. Mine was always fine pre-op, too.
I don't have an issue getting too little sodium in my diet. A little salt goes a long way when it comes to sodium content. I eat cheese, so get some in that way, but I also cook my meals from scratch more often than not and add a bit of salt when cooking, so I am able to get it in without overpowering the meals with salt.
My doctor also told me that my blood pressure should get a bit higher once my body gets used to the changes I am making. Good luck.
So you're not on blood pressure medication, right? What about diuretics? I have taken a diuretic for a long time for swelling in my ankles, and at one point had to discontinue it because my blood pressure went low enough I was getting dizzy and light headed.
Sodium sneaks into a lot of food. Chicken broth, most soups, are high in sodium. Deli meat, pickles, olives, cheese, the list goes on! One dill pickle gives half the daily allowance of sodium alone.
Hope you feel better soon!
Mine has been as well, I always had normal blood pressure readings when I was heavy. Since surgery they are always lower, much like yours. The last time I went it was 90/56 I believe. They haven't told me to do anything different. She said dehydration can cause low blood pressure but I drink at least 12 cups of water a day. I do know that if your blood pressure gets too low you can't have pain medicine since that makes your pressure lower but otherwise my PCP hasn't thought it was an issue.
I do feel light headed from time to time if I get up too fast and I feel tired but I think I always feel tired. I hadn't heard the sodium thing and I am not a fan of salt either.
Good luck!

Lol. I have had the same issue. My. Look pressure was on the lower side, 116 over 80, now it's closer to 100/60. My doctor took it twice last time because she thought it was. Mistake. Salt is good, but better is coffee. A cup a day should do it, no more than that though. Be glad you have a lower blood pressure, seriously, I consider it a blessing...:)
