Do "normal" people feel this cold all the time?
Just something that popped into my head.
"Freezing" after weight loss is clearly not a new subject around here, but I wonder why we don't hear more about being cold from people who never had weight issues Are they all just more used to it than we are, or are they oblivious to the fact that a new ice age is beginning? From my point of view, I figure we have like 4-5 months before glaciers cover North America again.

I'm guessing they're just more used to it, whereas with us it's most likely a relatively quick and recent change.
I am LOL at your comments about climate, but only ruefully so, as I am sitting here freezing myself. I have a coat now, for the first time in over 12 years, and I wore it IN THE HOUSE yesterday while my kids were wearing t-shirts. I am also getting into this new-fangled (to me) concept of layering.
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I have on a tummy girdle, long sleeve shirt, sweater AND a LEATHER COAT!!!! I am STILL freezing.

I've been getting colder and colder too! and I also bought a heating throw, upped the thermostat by 4 degrees from last year at this time (can't wait to get the bill), and layer for the first time in my life! thank goodness hubby (who also had vsg) is cold too. I pulled out some old hiking socks I had, very thick and warm :) my hands, oh my poor finger tips are suffering the most...even in the house. ok, you really want to laugh? I actually purchased, and used, a knitted nose warmer LOL. yes indeedy, I did. my nose gets so cold (in the house of 70 degreees), so I put on this nose warmer, and the hiking socks, silk gloves, and layered, long sleeved shirts. what a sight.
if you don't know what a nose warmer is....http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1pv9Py-S-h4/T2AP7M1oHBI/AAAAAAAAAlA/ryeBQJLDbF0/s1600/coldn.jpg
they are sold on etsy and ebay.
keep warm everyone!

Okay, I am going to be honest. I think it's a metabolic issue. Something happens when they cut out your stomach. I swear to the good Lord above, I woke up still fat as a house after surgery and was freezing my ass off! It actually wasn't that bad in the hospital, but as soon as I got home it was brutal. Probably didn't help that I had my VSG in December. But really, many WLS people I know are cold immediately following surgery. It's an oddity, isn't it? Like the instant resolution of type 2 diabetes some people get with VSG, some of us get "cold" immediately, too. I have asked several doctors about this and they have confessed there is very little understanding about this particular phenomenon.
I also think a great deal of the feeling cold has to do with the calorie deficit. When your body is short on calories, something has to give. For many of us that means making internal heat. Another reason is as you lose weight you have a larger ratio of surface area to total volume which allows heat to escape our bodies much more quickly. Think about it: a sphere has the smallest ratio of surface area to volume than any other geometrical figure (3D shape/object).
However, there is hope! I don't get nearly as cold as I did early out. I still get much colder than most of my normal weighted friends - or seem to at least feel the cold much more than they do. But I can tell you that I am not nearly as cold this winter as I was my very first winter having VSG. I still get cold, and wear gloves and wrap up with sweaters and scarves and requested long silk underwear for Christmas, but the cold doesn't usually "hurt" like it once did (says he who has ice blocks for feet!).
