Hi Everyone!

I am in the process of working for my surgery. I was just wondering how many grams of protein, calories, carbs, fats, or sugars do you try to stay between or under. I have not met with a nutritionist yet and with my background I really have to learn how to properly eat. I appreciate you help!

Stay blessed,
Jessica

Hi Jessica. I haven't had my surgery yet either. I try to eat anywhere from 900-1200 calories, 80-100 grams protein and about 40 grams carbs. I drink 64 ounces of water or more a day.

I don't eat fruit because it has too many carbs (that's just my opinion). I try and eat a green veggie once a day and I try and minimize my fat content, but I haven't been doing very well with that. I do use only a small pat of butter per day or a half teaspoon of olive oil to sautee veggies in sometimes.

The pre-op diet that my nutritionist gave me is this:

Before gym - half banana

Breakfast after the gym - protein like eggs + turkey bacon with some veggies

Lunch - protein shake either a ready to drink one (she recommends Premier Protein) or one made with 8oz skim milk and protein powder.  I use this brand of powder and like it -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GISTZ4/

Dinner - protein (chicken, fish, cow, pig, whatever) and veggies with no more than 1/2 cup of carbs

She wants me to aim for 1200 calories a day, but mainly just focus on working to change my bad habits and avoid doing the food funeral thing.  So I'm supposed to work also on drinking lots (64+ oz), not drinking during meals, and chewing well.)

I hope this is helpful!

Oh!  She also said that I could have crackers (triscuits were her example, not wheat thins which are apparently high in sugar) if I missed toast with eggs.  But I'm supposed to try to cut out bread.  Also alcohol, smoking, carbonation, and caffeine - all things I don't do anyway :P
