I just got a ticket.  The police in our down are notorious for being jerks.  I've always defended them because I respect position.  Well, not so sure I'll be doing that anymore.  I'm in northern IN and we are covered in snow and ice.  I pulled in to go get a tea at Speedway.  I come out to find this officer writing a ticket.  He kinda threw it at me and said "here you go."  I asked what it was for.  He said that I was parked in a handicapped spot.  I asked how I was supposed to know, everything was covered with snow and ice.  He went over and kicked the snow off and said, "there you can tell now."  UGH...he was such and ass!

Thanks for letting me *****!

I would fight the ticket. Parking in a handicapped space runs in the hundreds of dollars in most states. I got one in CA almost 20yrs ago and it was $350 then and is now $1000.00  o_O

It's only $40.00 here.  I'm still thinking about fighting it though.

That is so terrible. If you couldn't see the road then you shouldn't have gotten a ticket.

What a jerk! Whether it not you were parked in a handicapped spot, that didn't give him the reason to be rude to you! Sorry you had to go thru that.

was the "blue" not visible AT ALL ?  i mean ... if this is a place local to your home, you probably know where handicapped spots are by now, at least have an inkling.   Snow doesnt stick so much sideways onto signs....

There are 2 reg spots and 1 handicapped in front of the store.  There was a person to my left and I parked in what I thought was the 2nd reg. spot...it goes dumpster, reg spot, reg spot, handicapped spot.  You couldn't see any lines, which is why he kicked the snow off to show me.  I'm not so bothered by the ticket but don't be an ass about it.

In Indiana, Disable Parking spots have to have a sign on the actual parking spot, as well as a posted sign adjacent to the spot.  See IC 5-16-9 Chapter 9. Parking Facilities for Persons With Physical Disabilities for more information.

The sign was on the pole going straight out and the spots are angled.  I thought I was over one spot but couldn't tell because of the snow and ice.
