Personally I have no experience with this, but I have read many accounts of people becoming pregnant after weight loss when they thought they couldn't get pregnant!  It's why we're cautioned to double up on birth control for the first year post-op.

Can you have your eggs harvested and fertilized and then freeze the embryos until you have lost weight???

I met with the surgeon in Sept 2012 and was told to lose 10% off my body weight (about 30lbs), at which time he would operate. I lost around 40lbs and was given a date for early 2013, when I found out I was pregnant. We had been trying actively for over a year and not really reliable with birth control for at least 3 years. I had gotten pregnant very easily in my 20's, but this time around it just wasn't happening, so I figured I might as well go for the surgery first. I was a little disappointed that I had to put it off another year, since I had been waiting around 4 years for the surgery, but I'm so glad worked out the way it did. I had a sweet 6month old when I had my surgery on Feb 5th of this year, and I have been able to focus on the right thing.

I would recommend losing 10% of your body weight first and give it a couple months. If the flood of hormones leaving your fat cells doesn't do the trick, maybe consider VSG next. You really cannot get pregnant for 18months to 2years after surgery, and I'd doubt you'd want to, since you would want to give the new stomach and honeymoon period your best shot.

That's just my 2 cents, though.

I was 32/33. I really think for me the problem was my higher weight compared to my pregnancy weights in my 20's.

Good luck on your journey.

At 41, it is a shot in the dark BUT it CAN and Does happen.  Remember that 34 is not 35 is not 36 . .  and certainly NOT 41.  Any book or personal experience on fertility will tell you this.  We steadily decline.  The point is if a baby is what you want, take your best aim and start shooting like crazy.  My grandma had my very healthy uncle at 47 and my dads mom had her last at age 48 - they had no assistance in those days, it just happened without any effort.  Will I get that shot - there is no telling maybe my fertility will fizzle out early or . . . when I am 50???  If I for example want a baby and did nothing to make it happen, I would lose the possibility - harsh reality but we just do.

Go on a healthy strict diet - lose some weight on your own so you will not have to worry about issues with TTC too soon post  - op.  You won't have to worry about not losing and then gaining from your pregnancy.  Just lose some weight (eat for nutrition - prep your body for pregnancy) as everyone knows weight loss creates an environment in your body that seems extremely fertile (some people have fertility issues that are not resolved with WL like fertility deline that comes with age or blockages or severe PCOS).  After you have your baby then you can have WLS.  You won't lose the opportunity.  The thing that you don't have is time.  Better to go on a healthy diet and exercise routine.  Unfortunately our eggs are aging as we speak lol.

All best.
