ankles are swelling

I am 9 weeks post-surgery and this week my ankles have started swelling.  I am concerned about this.  The doctor did take me off my blood pressure medicine; I do not know if that has anything to do with this.  I do live in Texas but it has not been extremely hot -- YET!  Has this happened to anyone else?

Call your doc.  Watch your sodium.  Watermelon is a natural dieuretic (spelled that terribly, sorry). I have been on the boards a few years, and this is not a common issue that pops up.  

Call your doc immediately and tell him! Yes it is probably from going off your BP medsbut you shouldn't be swelling alot, you may need meds for fluid retention. Your BP meds were taking care of it while you were on them but you need to get this checked ASAP, it is not a good thing.

It happened to me.  I went to my PCP about it and once blood clots had been ruled out, she put me on a diuretic that I still take.  She mentioned that she had several other patients who'd had bariatric surgery with the exact same problem.  She wasn't sure why it was happening, but I wasn't the only patient she had with edema post-op.
