Advise needed - crushing pills and what to mix w/ it?
Hi! 8 days post op and feeling leaps and bounds better, off pain medication and back to a semi normal routine! Of course I still have pain, but given 4 days ago I was miserable, I no longer have that what did I do feeling!!
Anyway, onto the next question. I was diagnosed with pneumonia 2 days after surgery and was given a pill that I need to take for 10 days. I've crushed as finely as possible and have tried mixing it in fluids, with pudding, apple sauce and soup and I can't do it. It makes me sick and gag...any suggestions seeing its imperative that I take this for the next 4-5days??

Most pills when crushed will sit in your sleeve and irritate it. I was told to take them whole with lots of fluid to wa**** through.
I had to crush meds for one month. I dissolved them in a little white grape juice. Then chased it with another sip. I was pretty nauseated towards the end at the thought of taking them. Doctor said whole pills would irritate my stomach. Everyone gets different rules, follow your doctor's instructions.
The ASMBS says that we can take pills immediately after surgery. I started swallowing pills at the 2 week mark and haven't had any trouble at all.
