  • Tomorrow will be my last meal (I feel like ever). Is it bad of me to want to go out to a nice restaurant and really enjoy it? I start my 2 week liquid diet Wednesday.

I say go for it. It won't be your last enjoyable meal but for the next year it will seem like it. The first year I thought I would never be normal again. Now I am more attentive to what I eat and I eat a lot healthier than I did before surgery, but I do enjoy my food and my life. Have your last "anything goes" and then you can look back and realize that it wasn't really that important after all.

I ate, a couple of meals. I kept in mind I will be able to eat all these things again, and that helped my sense of loss. I chose things that will be harder to eat - pizza and cheese bread, or that I shouldn't/don't plan on eating - nachos french and fries.

I was lucky when sleeved and realized it wasn't my last meal.  I did eat at a restaurant I really liked and knew the meal was way higher in carbs than I hoped to every consume in one setting again.  I have eaten there since and share the meal with a grand kid now instead of hording all the goodness for myself.

I considered having a last meal, but decided I was liking the pre-surgery weight loss more.  But after a few months, at times, I kind of wish I had done it, as eating tiny meals does get old.  So I'd say go for it if you want to.

I just went on a cruise for my one year surgiversary, and I ate many excellent meals.  I couldn't eat large meals, and I avoided carbs as best I could. But I ate everything - breads, deserts meats, veggies, appetizers.  You will find a new normal, and you will have many excellent, enjoyable meals in the future.  The next 6 months will be challenging, as you get used to your new tummy, but it does get better.  The new health and mobility is worth it!  big time!

best wishes

Carol

I certainly did. It didn't even derail my pre-op weight loss - one meal won't do that.

My husband took me out for Italian and it was wonderful. I ate half of my meal and had a glass of wine. It was one of our best date nights. It was important to me to feel like I had control and closure with one of my favorite activities. It is different for everyone. Best of luck!

I too went out for a last meal-total carbs-pasta, bread, salad, wine and dessert. I do not regret it for one second. It was special and my husband and I really enjoyed it. I am in the midst of my pre-op diet now and when I crave carbs, I remind myself of the meal and it helps. I would make it an enjoyable evening and go out. You will look back on it when you are on your pre-op diet and not feel so deprived.
