How long to take the PPI??

I ran out of my PPI, and notice today I'm a weird mix of hungry and nauseated. Could that be acid?  Is this something we take forever or just short term?  Any input?

Thanks,

Renee

That definitely sounds like the way I feel if I run out of my PPI.  Plus I get diarrhea.

I don't know how long I'll be taking mine, I assume for a year and then I'll wean myself off if all goes well.

My program had us on them for 6 weeks.  I was on for 6 months because no one mentioned that you had to wean yourself off of them.  I'd try to go cold turkey and kept getting acid.  So stick to it for another month or two, then try weaning yourself off and see how it goes.

I have tried to go off it several times now.  I end of having to go back on.  I did not have this issue before surgery.  If this is the only issue after surgery to deal with then so be it.  It was worth it! ....But I'd really would like to get off it.  :)

I took them for 2 months per my doc but 6 months out the heartburn came back. One reason you may be struggling is you ran out and went off it cold turkey. These drugs are a taper-off kind of drug. It took me 2-3 weeks to come off it last summer. If you want to stay off them ans see how you do, you might consider getting one more refill and tapering. It will be much easier!

My surgeon gave me a 6 wk rx and said if I have any acid after to see my PCP. I didn't need it after the six weeks. I am 20 months out (short by a week) and am good without hunger and without the PPI. Sometimes tummy speaks but not much.
