For sure-- I really give myself permission to gain weight when I stop weighing myself.

Welcome back!

What's your activity level?  While burning calories is no substitute for restricting them, I've found that it helps me control the various demons...

Thanks! Congratulations on your impressive accomplishments. My activity level is restricted to walking at this point due to chronic (20 years!) of neck and back pain, plus very bad knees. I know I need to add this component, but am in pain from just daily living so I am afraid to make it worse.  I am working on it though, and being thinner does help.

There have to be some PT specialists out there that can help people who have physical limitations improve their activity levels... Wish I knew of some, but they have to be out there.

You've done incredibly well without that component... I think, for me, maintenance would be really tough without it.

That first two years after surgery does feel like we have been cured of obesity.  Even needing to gain a little to look better.

I always say that it is almost impossible to find someone three or more years out that needs to gain some weight.  For the most part the body recovers from the surgery and gets better and better at gaining and holding onto weight.

I hope you start your journey back to weight loss with a great scale.  One that measures bodyfat is excellent.  I took a three month vacation from the scale and gained twelve pounds starting at 30 months out.  I have never gotten all of that back off.

I fight hard to stay at my goal weight now.  One thing that I do daily is get on the scale.  I still eat high protein and avoid most carbs.  I do water aerobics twice a week and do a lot of yard work and housework.  I get to the pool for swimming anytime I am able during the summer.

You have a realistic plan for losing weight.  One or two pounds a week is the most that we can expect.   You will feel better with each pound that is gone.

White Dove,

What brand of scale do you have? There are so many options, prices, customer reviews all over the spectrum that I don't know where to start.

Thanks!

I have always bought Tanita.  My current one if about 10 years old (at least).  I haven't replaced it because it is still working perfectly.  I like gadgets so might buy something real high tech if I ever replace it.  One that communicates with the phone or FitBit.

Good for you for recognizing that you need to do something NOW rather than later!  And kudos to the new man in your life for his willingness to support you in that!

I had surgery a year ago and my husband just had it two months ago.  I had warned him that early on the surgery pretty much sucks the joy out of eating.  But that DOES change - lol!  And once eating becomes fun again it's a whole lot harder to keep things under control.

Glad you're back and willing to be accountable - good job!
