Carbs

28 days post op. I feel like all I eat is protein which is fine. My question is how many carbs should I be eating throughout the day? 30 grams? 60 grams? A ballpark idea would be great to know.

You will likely get many, MANY different answers to a question like this, so be prepared! This is one of those things that is, ultimately, up to you and your surgeon... and really? It's more up to YOU alone. You have to find a balance that you are comfortable with. For many people here, that looks like "as low as possible" just so that they can remain temptation-free. For some, they keep a "cap" of 30, 40, 50, 60, or whatever number so that they can have some carbs without going nuts. For still others, like myself, I just eat my protein first and if I have any room leftover, I'll eat carbs without freaking out over them too much. It works for me and helps to balance my blood sugar (and bowel movements! Sorry for the TMI!). You have to find what works for you. If carbs are your nemesis as far as cravings go, then steer clear. If you can handle them in moderation and know how to manage any cravings that do pop up, then that is your option as well.

Best of luck!

Ahhhhhh Chissy you are so close to goal!!!!  Yay!

Sorry for hijacking your post lol.  I totally agree with what Chrissy says.  I'd just like to add that the type of carb makes a difference too.  I suggest veggies and berries and nuts as your go to carb and starches as your only very occasional carbs.  I use hemp hearts daily (I'm sure everyone is getting tired of hearing this lol) but they are considered carby but I find they have great health benefits (omega fats and all that) and a good protein content for a carb/protein mixture in my opinion.  The added benefit is that since I started them I've had no problems with constipation.  I eat one tablespoon mixed into my greek yogurt in the morning but they have a nice gentle nutty flavour so can be put on anything really.  I like the added texture to the yogurt...just makes it feel more substantial and keeps me full longer.

Remember all carbs are not created equal :p

I just ordered some hemp hearts.  They sound interesting.  They do not seem high in carb.  It looks like 1 tablespoon has just 1 g of carbs and it is all fiber.  This should definitely help me get my omega 3s which I have been neglecting.

It depends on your plan.  My NUT only gave me a protein goal (60-80 grams a day) and a portion size.  So that way it works out is that I eat 3 meals a day.  I weigh out 2 ounces of protein and then have a bite or three of vegetables.  This has been working out very well for me and I don't fret about the actual number of carbs I'm getting each day.  (I always try to avoid refined/processed carbs like breads and pasta.)

Ask your NUT or surgeon what your carb intake should be.

I will thank you. Is your 2oz protein raw or cooked meat?
