I made it
Well I had my surgery on 7/3. First day wasn't bad but the second day my BP skyrocketed and I had to stay in the hospital til Saturday morning. Today im feeling more like myself and getting the required amount of fluids down is getting easier. My hubby is finally bringing my fur babies to our lake house where I am recooperating for the next few weeks. I'm ready for their sweet companionship. I'm getting BORED.
Congrats! I hope you keep posting your thoughts, struggles and successes as you heal and establish your new relationship with food, both mentally and physically. My date is approaching rapidly and my first hurdle is the liquid pre-op diet.
Did/do you have much pain? I guess everyone is going to be different but I'll be recoop-ping by myself. I have a special needs (paralyzed) furkid to take care of and I am a bit anxious about not being able to lift him and give him proper care.
Oooooh! A lake house! What a wonderful place to rest and relax!
I did have some pretty strong pain the first 2 days but if you can tolerate the narcotic pain meds, they do take the edge off. My anesthesiologist also did a abdomen block which made my recover easy on surgery day but when it wore off, it was pretty intense and my BP went real high. I'm not very tolerant of the narcotics as they nauseate me and wipe me completely out for hours. My worst pain has been the gas they blow your abdomen up with. Movement is really the only way to get rid of it. I'm still struggling with that.
I have a lifting limit of 25lbs for first 2 weeks. None if my fur babies are that big. And only one can't jump up on the couch and she weighs about 6 lbs. I have had no trouble sleeping on my sides (pillow supported) since I got home. You might want to invest in boarding your babies til you can easily bend over to take care of their needs. It doesn't take long. Just be careful not to do too much too early. I was greatful to have my hubby with me the first day home. I didn't think to put things I would need where I could avoid bending over right away. So if you are by yourself, be sure to put things were it will be easier to reach/lift before you head to the hospital. Good luck on your journey!
Have you asked your surgeon what your lifting limit is post-op? That would help you to better plan.
