How long have you taken antacid and / or anti-nausea medicine after your surgery?
Hi everyone. I got my sleeve on June 9th, so I'm about 5 weeks out. I'm worried about stopping the antacids and anti-nausea medicine my doctor proscribed, because initially I wasn't taking them consistently and was sick as a dog for several days.
How long did you take antacids after surgery? How long did you take anti-nausea meds after surgery? Did you taper off, or just stop at some point? What was a signal to you that you were ready to stop taking them?

Congratulations on being sleeved! I'd suggest that you contact your surgeon's office. My doctor put everyone on antacids for 3 months and worked with each patient to determine any course of treatment after that. Personally, I didn't need the anti-nausea medicine more than the first 2 days while in the hospital. Good luck!
I took my PPI for the first three months post-op. (Prilosec.) I just stopped, although I was having some weird issues that caused me to make that choice.
I have never taken nausea meds (zofran) on a regular basis, just as needed if I have a flare up. I've maybe needed to take 5-6 in the last 4 months.

I took Pepcid for 6 months post-op. Not any more. I never took anti-nausea meds because I didn't need them. I filled the script, but my husband used it instead a few weeks later when he had his surgery done.

Im about 8wks out and I take protonix twice a day. From post op day 1 till 6 wks out i was taking zofran and phenergan around the clock. I had bad stomach spasms that caused be to feel nauseated 24 hours a day. Now its much better and I haven't had to take anything in about 2 weeks. I still have the meds on hand just in case I need them.
The zofran you can stop anytime no need to worry about tapering off. But if it will ease your mind to do so its not a big deal. As far as the antacid I don't you need to taper off that as well. If all else fail you can always consult your local pharmacist.
