Pre-op diet question
Mine does not require one. I do have a goal weight to get to but they don't care how I get there.
I do have to be on clear liquids for 2 days beforehand but only to make sure I'm prepared for surgery.
I was only required to do two days of full liquids and then the day before surgery clear liquids. My surgeons philosophy is that he saw too many people go into surgery being dehydrated due to long drawn out liquid diets. He said he used to require more days on liquids but stopped due to many dehydrated patients. I started my liquid diet a day early. I can't say I was dehydrated, but sure was hungry from going from thousands of calories a day to liquids. It was hard and I am not sure I could have done a week or two of liquids.
I did not have to do a pre op liquid diet, I believe it has to do with your BMI and type of surgery you are having. My surgeon or my mom's surgeon ( at the same center) does not require liquid diet for sleeves unless a very high BMI. We were just asked to do a high protein low carb diet. Every person and surgeon are different though I would stick to his recommendation.
I had a 2 week diet of protein drink for breakfast, protein drink for snack, 3-4 oz of lean meat & 1 cup veggies for lunch, protein drink for snack, then 3-4 oz of lean meat & 1 cup veggies for supper. Then the day before I had a clear liquid diet. Then full liquids for 2 weeks after. The 2 weeks after were definitely harder than the 2 weeks before.

I had to do two weeks of low carb, high protein but didn't have to follow a liquid diet. The carbs had to stay under 40g per day I think. The purpose was to keep the carbs really low in order to shrink the size of the liver before surgery so the surgeon has easier access to the stomach.
