The Pre-PreOp Diet
Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I'm looking in to starting to make changes now, and I even wrote all of your great advantage down from my previous post, but this I am struggling and. I know to cut out caffeine, carbonated beverages, and begin decarbonization. I have been thinking about substituting the two meals that I eat alone with protein shakes. This would be a good opportunity to learn what I like and make necessary changes. I guess I'm just wanting an opinion on this. My family is supportive, but don't know much about these things. And how do you properly make a protein shake? Thanks in advance! You guys are great!
unless your getting near surgery I would not cut out meals for protien shakes yet , you will get tired of them before you need them
just stick to around 1200 cal , 80 gm protien , cut out the caffeine now so you will not go thru withdrawal just before or after surgery
stop smoking if you do now
you will be able to drink caffeinated drinks a while after surgery depending on what your surgeon says
I have been drinking regular coffee since after 1 month after surgery, it helps me with constipation problems
I have to echo this-you will likely be on liquids for quite some time and will absolutely be sick of them before you can progress to soft/mushie/pureed/whatever. I did start doing a protein shake as creamer in my coffee (decaf) throughout the day and still do that-definitely helps with protein intake.

I did exactly what the OP did with protein shakes for 2.5 months pre-op and I still do a shake a day 9 months post-op. I've yet to get tired of them. I love my shake.

I make a shake this way:
1. Pour 8 ounces unsweetened original almond milk into 12 ounces Blender Bottle (bought from Amazon)
2. Add scoop and a half of protein powder.
3. Add any other stuff I add - right now that's Benefiber, magnesium citrate, and b12 powders.
4. Close lid and shake well.
5. Open pop top and drink.
6. Rinse out and leave in sin****il dishwasher is loaded in the evening.

Thanks! I've heard 1000 different ways to make them. I'm in the middle of no where and YouTube was not helpful... Lol I want to start something now because I don't know what else to do. I feel like I've been on a diet my entire life, so being creative with food at this point is just not working. And I get that protein shakes don't work for everyone, but I think they would make a difference.
