How much swelling after the sleeve?

i am in the pre op stage and like to do tons of research on how people did with the surgery.  I watched a video that said the stomach for the first 5 - 7 days after sleeve surgery has an opening for your liquids about the width of a pencil due to the swelling.  Can anyone comment on this?

I don't know about the measurements of my sleeve opening, but I don't think I had a lot of swelling since I,personally, was able to drink well, eat broth well and eat ice pops just fine. I also had no sore throat.

just my personal experience.

Well,  I can't comment on how my stomach was swollen inside BUT I know that I didn't have much trouble with drinking my fluids. I took small sips at first and was able to pretty much get in all my ounces from the beginning. The key is taking your time and listening to your new stomach.

It took both my husband and me about 3 weeks to notice a big difference in ease-of-swallowing.  I have to assume that's because the swelling subsided significantly after that time period.

I think I had alot of swelling, but I think I also tend to swell - and it lasted for weeks.

It varies from person to person.  I had minimal swelling - I was able to drink with relative ease (small sips) from the very beginning.  Not chugging, but I was meeting my minimum protein/fluid requirements the day after surgery.  Other people have more difficulty at the outset, but it gets better as the swelling reduces.  You won't know how it's going to be for you until you're post-op!

I had a lot of swelling in the beginning...too swollen even for the leak test the next day. By day three i could only take super small sips and by day four I had no problem sipping and had no real discomfort. I think everyone reacts differently, but it will all work out in the end. Good luck to you!

I had a lot of swelling and could not really sip comfortably until day 4.  I think it took about 4 weeks until it was gone.  Hope this helps!

I had zero problems with drinking since day 1.  So it's pretty individual.
