Pure Protein bars?

I am 6 weeks post op and was worried I was not getting enough of my protein in yet with "real food".  I am tired of the shakes so I thought I would try the Pure Protein bars I read about here.  When I eat them, my stomach makes all these crazy noises!  This is the ONLY food that does that.  It doesn't hurt, and I am "able" to eat it, but it makes the noises the entire time I am eating it.

Does this happen to anyone else?  Is this bad?  Is there something in the protein bars that I should avoid?

Thanks for any insight!

I prefer Quest bars because of the fiber in them, but used to eat Pure Premium chocolate chip bars every day.  I have been eating them again recently because I haven't gotten to the Vitamin Shoppe to pick up more Quest bars.  Early on, my stomach howled when I ate or drank anything.  It is nothing to worry about and has calmed down with time but still grumbles from time to time.

Pure Protein bars aren't bad, as their protein/calorie ratio is similar to the popular Quest bars and are about as good as you get in bars. However, they depend more on sugar alcohols (xylotol, maltilol - most anything ending in -ol) for their sweetingin, which can cause some dietary distress in some people, so that might be what you are feeling.

Alcohol sugars are probably the culprit - or the higher carb count.  I can't tolerate alcohol sugars at all!  And I find that higher carb foods - even now - will cause those highly embarrassing and LOUD stomach noises.

IMO too many carbs in those, it's probalby the sugar alcohols or maybe soy protein that is messing with your intestines.  stick to Quest, YUP, Victory bars ... more fiber in those at least!

Thanks, I'm going to order some Quest bars online since I can't seem to find the in any stores. Do u know what stores carry them?  Also it seems both the pure protein and quest both have about 20g carbs in them, so I'm not sure the difference there.

they have 3-5 net carbs, rest is soluble fiber.

I haven't looked at a label in a long while, but a couple of years ago, Pure Protein bars had a lotof collagen protein in them. It's a pretty crappy protein source, and you may not be getting nearly as much protein from them as you think.

Thank you so much for this info! I'm learning what I need to look for now. I got some Quest bars to try today and very happy to read there are no sugar alcohols in them.  It's great to have an alternative protein source when you are on the go. I feel like so many times I'm in the situation.... Should I not eat, or eat something that is not the best choice.  The Quest bars are perfect for this. I do prefer real food as much as possible
