Eating slowly?

I am 4.5 months out from my VSG.  I am down 59 pounds since surgery, 79 pounds total.  Couldn't be more thrilled with the result!  My question is about how quickly people eat.  I measure every single thing that goes in my mouth, 2-3oz of protein and a few bites of veggies if I have room.  Meeting all my protein and water goals daily.  However, I'm not eating as slowly as I was in the beginning.  I can usually finish my meals in 15-20".  As long as I'm measuring out the food should I worry about this?  Only one time since surgery did I eat to the point that I was overfull, I had nausea and chest pain and have been even more careful since to not try for one last bite.  I have never vomited.  Anyone else eat faster than the 30" meal?  Thanks in advance for thoughts!!

It took me about 18 months to where I ate a bit more quickly.  Now I eat for about 10 or 15 minutes and put the rest away.

Unfortunately, I never really did slow down my eating to where it should be!  Almost 15 months out I still eat too quickly, but have only had one bad time and that was very early on.  It's more about bad habits that got us to the obese stage in the first place...eating too quickly is one of them.  You're doing great...keep it up!

I eat quickly too but also measure everything out and stop if I start to feel full.

I tend to eat slower when I am eating something that I struggle with - tuna or dry chicken are two examples - but if I'm eating a pre-measured portion of a well-tolerated food (ie string cheese or a hardboiled egg) I don't take a full 30 minutes.

I eat faster than I should, but lately have been trying to eat much more slowly.  Now I put my fork or spoon down between bites, and it helps me to pace myself.  I try to eat at the same rate as my husband, so I don't finish way before him and then sit and stare at his plate.

I never learned to eat slowly.  I eat my meals in a few minutes.  It hasn't done me any harm that I notice, but its probably better if you can eat slowly so you can enjoy your meals more.

I'm curious how others do with this?

I'm almost 1 month out and I have to fight myself to eat slowly. I make myself put my fork/spoon down between bites and make them small bites by using a baby spoon/fork set. Things that disintegrate in my mouth like light string cheese go down faster than things like canned salmon. I make sure and count bites as well. when I do refried beans and again with string cheese it falls part after about 10-15 chews but I make myself do at least 25-30 chews with canned salmon/tuna. If I don't do these things (hard to do at work sometimes when I'm eating between phone calls) I get foamies or food feels lumped in my throat and I have to sit and swallow over and over. Sounds like your weight loss is going well though.

Surgery and this process has been pretty easy for me....however eating slowly is the one issue I have. I had a hard time eating the slow from the get go and even now. I don't have the time to sit there and spread my eating out. I do better with breakfast and lunch during the week because I will eat at my desk while I work. I still measure everything out and sometimes I'm conscious or I have the time I will try and eat slowly. Its been a challenge for me!
