Hair loss and tailbone pain

Good morning everyone. I am almost 4 months post-op and am struggling with hair loss and terrible tailbone pain :( My doctor recommended I use rogaine, has anyone done this? did you have any success? When does the hair loss stop? It is making me super sad. I love my hair, and now its all thin and every time I wa**** I pull out chunks :(

Second, my tailbone drives me insane. I commute to work everyday and am in the car for about 45 minutes to an hour and the pain is unbearable. I have a special pillow that does nothing. It even hurts to sit on the couch! Did anyone experience this? Is a chiropractic visit in order? Should I get an x-ray?

Other than that, I am super happy. Still loving my sleeve, and loving being able to walk without pain or getting out of breath. :D

here's what my surgeon told me about t he hair loss,  this would happen in 4-6 months post op but this is temporary and he said it'll be gained back few months down the lane.

stick to high protein and iron supplements. it is just the effect of reduced nutritional intake over the months of post-op. he also said if your protein intake could be kept close to 70g per day there won't be as much hair loss. so don't worry about the hair it's temporary!

I eat about an average of 90 grams of protein a day :(

If the cushion you are using does not help, then try different ones until you find one that works for your pain.

I was lucky enough to not experience any hair loss at all post-op so I can't vouch for how long it occurs for, but what I made sure I did every day post-op was to get a ton of protein in, be vigilant about taking vitamins, and taking a biotin supplement. Not sure if any of those helped or if I was just lucky, but I figure it can't hurt.

Sorry to hear about the ouchy tailbone! It may just be due to you losing more of your cushion, but shouldn't be unbearable. I would probably check with a chiropractor, just in case!

Are you sure about chunks?? That seems extreme. I experienced hair loss.....I have fine hair.......but a ton of it. At the first signs of thinning I cut and donated it. I figured my new body needed a new haircut! I love my shorter hair. The cut really makes my hair look nice and full. I'm 19 months out and my hair has fully grown back.

I guess "chunks" was a wee bit extreme lol Everytime I shower I lose about 20 strands.

Both hair loss and tailbone pain are common.  Google: Telogen effluvium. Biotin stimulate hair growth everywhere. Tail bone pain is a big deal.  We use ****yx cushions There are several on Amazon for sale.  I think ours was a Kabuki or something like that.  Hope this helps.

I had both the hair loss and the tail-bone pain.  I think cushions for the tail bone, and time for the hair loss.

My hair loss started at 3 months post op and went thru about 8 months.  Around the 6th month, I got a short hair cut, and I started using a body building mousse and blow drying my hair to make it look thicker.  I would have purchased a wig if I needed it, but I was able to manage with the mousse.

At about 9 months post op, I had a healthy crop of volunteer hairs sticking straight up all over my head.  I was so happy to see it, I didn't even mind that it made me look scruffy!  hehehe.  By one year, my hair was returning to normal.

The hair loss isn't fun, but its also temporary.  Your hair will get back to normal and your body will be so much nicer and your health and mobility will improve.  It is so worth the inconvenience.

best wishes,

Carol
