VSG to RNY

We have posters here that lose over 200 pounds with the sleeve. I remember "Jim" who lost over 300- so it is possible. Difficult for sure, but entirely possible. It sounds like your docs have thought this through, and want to build on your current success. Revisions are risky though, so be sure to ask a lot of questions about the risks to make sure you are well informed. Congratulations on your weight loss- that is an impressive amount by any measure!

Both my surgeon and myself both think it's best for me to have the RNY as soon as I and the team deems fit, they don't want me to start gaining which usually happens 2 years post-op or sooner. I would love the chance to lose that amount of weight, but I think my body is already at it's "goal" weight for me. I am going to do everything possible to lose more, whatever it takes!!! I have questions written down already!!! Thank you, I am a entirely new woman :)

RNY on 08/21/12

Our bodies don't have a goal weight. They weigh whatever we feed them. Yours used to weigh 479, because that's how much you fed it. Now it weighs 335, because you feed it that much less. If you want it to weigh 190, you have to feed it that much less.

But I truly think that the difference between VSG and RNY is so minimal, it is not going to help you do that. The "whatever it takes" is either in the malabsorption of DS, or entirely in your head, with your VSG or RNY.

I'm not trying to seem harsh. I just don't want you to be disappointed. And if you are in maintenance with VSG, you will be in maintenance with RNY as well.

Good luck.

Jos.  There are surgeons performing DS surgeries.   Request a referral to Dr. Hong in Hamilton.   I would investigate all of your options.

Honestly I would love to have the surgery done by the same surgeon that performed my VSG, he knows what he's working with and we are both familiar with one another, thank you though.

I would think the logical next step would be DS, too. Can you look around to see if someone else in your area does it?
