Hospital /PCP visits since Sleeve

I  rarely needed medical care prior to my sleeve life. But since then, my PCP and I have become best friends lol.

Curious if others without significant comorbidities found that they had more interactions with the health care system postop?

Ps. I am actively bartering my soul for the quick use of a time machine...just putting it out there, anyone know a mad genius working one?

Sorry, but not me. If I didn't need to go in for yearly labs, I wouldn't need to go anywhere near the doctor's office. I can't tell you how much I've saved in copays, both for doctors and prescriptions.

That's awesome Grimm! I hope it stays this way and doesn't turn grim for you in the future!

I did, because I started caring about my health more than I ever had before.  So I stopped ignoring chronic complaints and finally sought health care providers to address them.  I was more proactive about physical therapy when I needed it.  I stopped putting exams off since I was no longer worried about getting fat shamed by providers.

It's been wonderful.

That's uber interesting. I feel like fat shaming in the medical field is far more in the US than Canada. I love out free health care system.

Do you think if you addressed these health issues preop even in the face of this very real sense of shame over your weight, you could have improved your quality of life enough not to require the sleeve?

What might have been isn't very important to me.  What matters is that pre-sleeve I was not successful at being healthy and post-sleeve I am.  While the fat shaming from doctors was a factor in my avoidance of professional help prior to surgery, the much larger factor was that I just didn't care.  I care way more about my health now.  I care more about my life in general.  I'm less willing to put up with things that are wrong in all facets of my life.

So, for me, it doesn't matter what I could have done if things were different - they weren't.  I'm grateful every day that I got WLS.  And I'm most grateful that it inspired me to finally get my mental health sorted out.  The last year has been **** and there's no way I could have made it without all the mental work I've done thanks to the VSG process.

"What might have been isn't very important to me" - true wisdom I needed to be reminded of today, not necessarily related to this topic, but to other stuff.  Thank you, Gwen.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

The only co-morbidity I had was borderline high blood pressure.  I was on my way to taking medication for it and I know I would have started having way more doctor interactions if I stayed at my highest weight.

For the past 3 years, I have only gone to the doctor once a year.  My work gives us medical premium incentives every year if we get a biometric screening and take a personal health assessment so every year in February or March I go to the doc, get a physical and that's it!

Oh and I do get my vision checked once a year but that's only so I can use my leftover FSA funds at the end of the year to get some awesome glasses.  This year it was Prada prescription sunglasses.  I feel so fancy!
