Am I eating too much?

It seems like a silly question since I should know, but I am worried I am eating too much. I read people's posts and they say they can barely eat 1 or 2 oz of food but I can usually eat 3 or 4. Am I eating more than I should? I dont over stuff myself and weigh everything I eat. Am I worrying for nothing?

If you measure and are not eating too much volume, you're fine.  I limited my food to 1/4 cup by volume at first for some time.  I was overly cautious though because I wound up on liquids longer due to discomfort.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I personally, couldn't over-eat without feeling terrible - tummy pain, slime-ies, etc.  So I never thought of it by volume.  I viewed it by calories.

I aimed at 600 to 800 calories per day for the first few months.  Then I slowly increased as I went on.  I was eating 800 to 1000 calories a day at 6 months, and probably 1000 to 1200 by 1 year.

I think you will feel uncomfortable if you eat too much volume.  At least for me, that was self-correcting.  Calories is another matter - that takes attention and determination.

best of luck on your weight-loss journey

Carol

I don't think you'll get a good answer from other people on that. I posted something similar (re: getting in my protein) and you had responded with your portion and I thought "OMG, I'm way behind!". So, I tried eating a bit more and didn't have discomfort and then posted a response to someone else about how I was eating 3oz and got responses saying that was a TON for 4 weeks out from surgery. Which made me swing completely the other way.

I think it's all fine as long as we are tracking protein & calories, not feeling discomfort and eating foods that move the mission forward. I also think some food are just different than others. I can eat 1 egg + 1/2oz of cheese, but I can eat 3oz of shrimp by weight. Today I tried Turkey Burger and I had brought 2oz and I could only do about 1.5oz total. Just depends on the food!

Now cheese, I think I could eat ALL the cheese.

I think you're right. As long as I am not over stuffing myself and getting sick, I must be fine. I've been getting about 600-700 calories a day on most days and am not perfect on all of my protein, but try to get as close as I can. Sometimes I'm just tired of eating lol

Our surgery dates are close and we are getting similar calories. I'm adding in a Premier Protein before bed. I started warming them for 40 seconds in the microwave and adding a shot of Torani Sugar Free syrup. It's made it easier to get that protein boost. But, there is an occasional day where I'm like "over it, going to bed. I won't die". We can only do so much. It's such a mental game.

I love the sugar free syrups, they make the protein shakes so much easier to get in. My favorite is Toasted Marshmallow flavor, I put it in vanilla and it tastes exactly like a toasted marshmallow.

I'm out of surgery 3 weeks and doing about the same as you. I can only do 1 premier protein for breakfast and I'm finally getting enough food in me to take care of the rest. Your doing great!

Isn't it crazy to be tired of eating? I just told my husband tonight that I didn't care if I ate or not (he said he was starving, and didn't seem amused lol) which is just nuts because before surgery I was the one starving all the time. It just feels like I am full most of the day trying to balance the protein and water requirements, that I too just feel tired of eating sometimes.
