What happens if I over eat? Should I expect hair loss?

To begin with, if you over eat you get sick. Several weeks in you may only feel discomfort, or you may vomit depending on how much you overeat. It's not fun or something you want to do on purpose. There is a mental change that needs to occur, as you will no longer feel "full". You are either done eating, or you are hurting/sick/battling indigestion.

Some people lose hair and some don't. It seems to start (or not) around 12 weeks post op. I am 13 weeks post op and have not noticed any hair loss so far.

First poster is right. If you overeat at all, you get a full feeling in your chest. Then the "foamies" where your mouth fills with saliva and then you vomit up most of what you ate. This happens if you overeat, eat to fast, or take too large a bites.

Hair loss can happen. For me it was from about 12 weeks to 6 months. I happen to have a lot of hair, so it wasn't a problem (other than my drains). After about month 6 the hair stopped its massive accumulation in my brush as my weight loss slowed down as well.

Weird that multiple new accounts are posting the same question about VSG today.

Hair loss will happen to some people and not others. You can't do anything about it if you're one of the lucky ones. Just know that it'll pass and your hair will come back. Google telogen effluvium for the details.

It looks like the subject of the thread says "Having VSG surgery this year and have a few questions...." He is not questioning hair loss with over eating rather two different questions.

Overeating makes baby kittens cry and hide beneath baskets.

Hair loss occurs during any major trauma to the body. It forces the hair follicles into the last stage of growth. This process is called telogen effluvium, and you aren't permanently losing hair - it just all falls out at once instead of a few hairs a day.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
