Pre-op Diet

I'm having sleeve surgery next month. I seem to be more scared and intimidated of the pre-op diet than the actual surgery itself. Has anyone else felt like that prior to their surgery?

Are you on a high protein low fat pre surgery diet ?

Yes, starting two weeks before surgery.

I had 10 days of liquids only pre-op and 14 days of liquids post-op and OMG I was so sick of liquids at the end of those 24 days.

I was also worried about the pre-op diet, although I had drastically modified my diet prior to that point. I'm better with specific rules to follow, so in January 2014 I starting swapping out "meals I eat alone" for protein shakes - breakfast and lunch most days. Then I'd have a protein forward dinner.

Once pre-op started, it was 5-6 protein shakes a day for those 10 days. But I was nervous because I knew that I'd miss food, I knew that I'd probably feel tired, and all that other stuff.

In the end, I just tried to keep SUPER busy during the liquid pre-op phase. (I'm actually glad my plan required liquids only, since I think it would have been harder for me to have had choices, if that makes sense.) And, for what it's worth, 3.5 years post-op my memory of the pre-op time is pretty much faded. My cat had a health crisis during those 10 days, so that's most of what I remember at this point. :P

My pre-op was 10 days very low fat, high protein about 1,000 calories. It wasn't bad, but I was eating very high protein prior to that. Breakfast was a shake. Snack in AM was Oikos Triple Zero. Lunch was a big green salad with grilled chicken (3-4 oz) and about a tablespoon of balsamic vinaigrette. Dinner was whatever protein I made for the family with large salad, with a tiny bit of dressing and a vegetable.

It wasn't horrible. I was so grateful I was not on full liquids for 10-14 days prior to surgery. To be honest, it's not that much different than how I eat now, 11 months post op.

Keep on losing!
