Question - liquid protein drinks

I bought a few different brands and flavors of the liquid protein shakes. Everyone has made me feel sick. I get very hot, slightly nauseas, light headed and sometimes heart racing. I attempted 4 brands (including PP and Isopure). I even tried the clear.

To test the theory it is the sweetener, I tried a powdered one from Sprouts that has Stevia. The above did not happen.

Is this dumping syndrome or a reaction to something else? No issues from any other food I've tried either.

Is

Are you cleared for shakes? I was told clear liquids (broth/water) the first 2 weeks.

Your plan is definitely on the less usual end of the spectrum. Most people go straight from surgery to full liquids.

This sounds like your body might not like the sweetener. Or the lactose. What are you mixing the Sprouts powder with?

At any rate, it's good that you found a protein powder that doesn't bother you! I've found that I have much better experience with protein powders than ready to drink shakes.

Jus****er for now. I may try some varieties as I progress since I have to do half a shake 2 c per day for 2 months as my planned snack.

It might be the whey in the ready to drink shakes that's bothering you. Lots of people develop lactose intolerance post-op.

I thought of that but yogurt hasn't bothered me? I will just keep experimenting. The hard part will be with powder when I go back to work. I wonder if I could mix it in decaf coffee?

You might be able to! Google "how to temper protein powder" because it can clump/curdle if you add it directly to hot liquid. (Sort of like eggs do.) But it CAN be done.

Yogurt might be okay because of how the milk is processed? I'm not lactose intolerant so I don't know all the ins and outs of what works and what doesn't for people :/

If yogurt is okay, you might be able to get non-fat greek yogurt and add protein powder to it. I really liked mixing Syntrax fuzzy peach protein powder with plain yogurt.

It is very rare for a VSG patient to dump. Maybe you're experiencing reactive hypoglycemia?

I just read that article yesterday and that's what it feels like. The good thing is that all the other things I've tried don't seem to do that. Maybe it's just the quick onboard of calories, etc with the shakes? I'm going to stick with the powders for now and see how to doctor them up.
