Hiatal hernia

I just recently found out that I have a hiatal hernia after 5 years post VSG that needs surgery repair. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the surgery and aftercare like? Will I need to take a lot of time off work for recovery?

Hernias for the formerly obese are really, really common. Not all need fixing, but many do. I've seen recovery range from super easy to very painful. Experiences vary a lot.

hiatal hernias can happen to anyone including non wls patients.

It is a simple laparoscopic fix and the recovery is about like any other lap surgery.

Yep. Hernia number 1 repaired at vsg surgery. Few years after my gallbladder went out and I had hernia number 2 repaired while getting that out. In my case since it was a second repair and a most all of the stomach was up in my chest it was a riskier thing. Surgery went off without a hitch though. It would have been a rougher recovery due to the gallbladder being added on, but even with that it was Ok.

My surgeon warned I might need to have the pyloric valve removed to ease the pressure, but I really wanted to try and repair. Now it has been a few more years and I am pretty damn sure it has herniated again- symptomatic. There is no repair number 3. Going in to the GI guy here soon to get checked out.
