Topic: RE: 3 years 3 months Post-Op

I am 3 1/2 years post op. I can eat significantly more than first 2 years post op. Perhaps I should say I 'do' eat more. I can eat 1 egg over medium. Not good with scrambled eggs though. About 3 ounces of turkey (not so much chicken - 1-2 ounces if breast meat). 1/2 cup of most any steamed vegetable. A whole medium peach or 1/2 Apple. 1/2 cornbread muffin or biscuit, 3/4 pkt tuna creations with 3-4 crackers, 1/3 cup cottage cheese with 3 ounces yoghurt

I have discovered that I am still a stress eater. I can eat grab bag of Cheetos, lots of chips and salsa, etc. refined sugars make me feel exhausted about 30 min to hour after eating them. After that I crave carbs for 2-3 days minimum.

Topic: RE: Prevention of muscle mass loss during calorie restriction
What are your thoughts on AdvoCare catalyst to help prevent muscle loss during calorie restriction?

Hubby takes joint promotion faithfully and swears by it so I became a distributor and have been looking into other advocare products.

Topic: RE: Your thoughts on advocare

Hubby has recently started taking a couple of advocare products-joint promotion one of them. He is kind if person who does not take pills or any med for that matter, much at all. However, because he can tell such a difference in how he feels (less joint pain, etc). He takes them daily. It got me interrested- I see that the protein shots are a mixture of whey protein and collagen protein.  I sm wondering how collagen protein is beneficial- i dont think it promotes muscle mass. I will research more....  in addition  it does seem like their products are geared to being physically active and the carbs are a little high.  Thoughts?

Topic: RE: Question for anyone who used UHC for their VSG
I had BCBS Tx and started Preop with them but after January 1, 2012 went to UHC. UHC accepted all I had done with BCBS and my surgery date was set for 1/28/12. No problems

Yep. Lots of poop posts here. I am trying to increase fiber and fluids at over a year out. Constipation has been worse than any stall! Best of luck to you.

I just happened to find them at my local health food store. They are actually made from buffalo/bison. I am always looking for something to have on hand that is quick and easy.

Besides the obvious ...refined sugars and "bad" carbs, not enough protein makes me have head hunger. I have found that I do well with about 80gm protein each day.

Topic: RE: so much for following the meal planner book?
That early out I found warm drinks went down much better than Cold. I could not eat eggs for first 3 months. I am over 1 year out and hamburger meat still gives me trouble. Plain water hurts my tummy most days - flavored water does not ....all that to say this - give yourself a break- scale back to softer, less dense foods for a week or so...yes, like cottage cheese perhaps. Although, I still find cottage cheese to be pretty dense. I eat about 1/3 cup of it at a time. I also found that if I vomited, it took a day or so for my tummy to "recover". Also, give yourself 6 months to heal completely. Increased acid in your stomach will also set you back as far as being able to progress your diet. I take protonix for the acid. Best of luck!

Your body has been through a whole lot. It probably thinks you are trying to starve it to death at this point-trying to hold onto every ounce of food you eat. Just stick with your plan and try weighing weekly for a little while

I ate pizza during weight loss phase ....very little...probably twice in 8-10 months. I ate pAppa johns thin crust "the works" about 1/2 slice. I also ate fried chicken in a pinch but took skin off. I have found that my body will pretty much do what it wants for a period of time but when I stay with plan, I will ultimately loose. Just my way of looking at "stalls". At the end of it all, I would say "eating clean" 90% of time during weight loss phase would b good idea.

Topic: RE: 15 months postop and my biggest challenge ...
Unfortunately, I had constipation problems Preop and prunes did not help much. For the carbs they have I am afraid they r not an option. Also, i want to stay away from stimulant lax bc they r habit forming. For me the miralax has worked it just keeps taking more and more now with the addition of milk of mag. You would think fiber wafers, coffee and green tea would do the trick....I often eat fiber one cereal at bedtime too. There has got to be a answer. Lol.

Not the stalls, not the head hunger, not the occasional foamies.....but the constipation!! UGH!!
I have graduated to double doses of miralax daily and then to MOM. Tried fiber and extra water and ended up with concrete stools. I eat vegetables, flax seed, Metamucil wafers with 2 cups of coffee every morning, drink green tea - still very constipated. I do not want to continue taking "laxitives". Any other "all natural" remedies? Prunes have way too many carbs....

Topic: RE: Question for vets in maintenance: do you still log all you eat or drink?
For about 3 months I did not log my intake. However, since the first of the year I have been pretty faithful to log all intake. I may miss a day a week or occasional weekend if I am out of town. I am not secure enough to not log at all. I have never really logged water except to know how many bottles i need to drink each day. I have reset my goal a couple of times - trying to decide where actual maintenance is for me. I tend to eat the same things most of the time so tracking is pretty easy.

Topic: RE: Lots of questions for you !
Food cravings go away.

I have a feeling of "emptiness/nausea" when I "need" to eat. I was 1 year postop 1/2013

I have lost quite a bit of hair but my hair was thick to start with. Hair loss has not been an issue for me.

No malabsorption problem with VSG.

My taste have changed and continue to change. I may try something and not like it and try it again a few months later and really like it.

Preop my weakness was sweets and diet coke. No prob with either now. Never dreamed I would go over a year without diet coke !
