Changing my Goal Weight

My surgeon originally said he's sure I can get to a 24 BMI, which would put me at about 140 lbs. Of course I've weighed that as a young adult, so I know that physically it's possible. However, in my usual (old) manner, I originally listed 150 lbs as my goal, to secretly/unconsciously give myself a buffer in case I fail/quit/give up/settle. However, lately I've become even more focused on this process, diligent about my food choices, logging every crumb, every step and every bicep curl. I want to take full advantage of this time with my trainer, my small tummy and the little amount of food I can take in...and go all the way. So yesterday I changed my goal to 140 lbs. I feel like now that I've publicly declared it, I'm even more committed to not continuing giving myself slack, allowing myself to settle. It's just one more of those damn character things I've run across lately, another irritating personality trait i thought I took care of in my introspective 30's :)

My trainer says I can get down to 130/135 lbs. Again, I'm sure that physically it's possible, but I don't believe it on some level. Maybe in another 10 pounds I'll change my mind :)

Anyhow, not looking for anything in particular, just wanting to document my goal in public so I can't ignore it.

Have a great day!

I set my original goal for 150 and my surgeon looked funny at me, but he didn't say anything.  I ended up getting down to 123 for awhile, but bounced up since then.

So - take advantage of the time you have, get as low as you can and give yourself some "bounce back" room.  You'll be glad you did!

And - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised just how low you may get!

You didn't indicate and I didn't see it on your profile your height.

I think it's great to make changes to your goal, especially when you know the original was based on negative thoughts. I myself am thinking about a change, but I'm so far from my original goal that I want to meet that one first.

Good for you!

My first goal for me was 140 because I had been there as an adult after 2 children and had held it for a while.  My Dr didn't set goals.  So I was pleased when I went past 140, then was hoping for a normal BMI.  Breezed past that and got as low as 111 which was too low.  My body seems to be happy at 123-124 which is at the top of normal BMI for me but the last body scan I did said I was under fat  so although I would like to be closer to 120, if I stay under fat, I guess I can't complain.

I agree with Jody.  Just keep going and see where you end up.  After all, you don't get a magic anything when you reach goal.  Then you just have to go on the second part of the journey, which is learning how to stay there.

I know exactly how you feel about not getting there. I don't know about you but with all my failed diets I just sometimes feel this may be another one. I was 255 before my preop diet (5'6") I set my first goal to 199 because i so didnt want to fail. My second goal was 150 felt like I went out on a limb with that one but low and behold I'm at 162 now and I'm secretly hoping that I may be  able to set a goal below that in the near future! I bet you will go lower then you think your doing great best of luck.

I set two goals.  The first was to be a normal BMI, which for me was about 140 lbs.  Actually, now that I think about it, I had 3 goals.  I wanted to be a normal BMI and if I stayed there I would have been perfectly fine.  Actually, maybe it was 4 goals because I would have been perfectly happy to be under 150.  Next, I would have loved to be about 130-135 because that was the weight everyone seemed to think I looked best at.  And finally, my dream of goal was 120 since that was half my highest weight.  In the end I zoomed past all of them and settled at 105, which was never my goal and I don't feel I look good at but at least I will be in good shape if the bounce back ever comes.

I guess the point is it's okay to have several goals.  I set my first goal kind of high because that way I wouldn't be setting myself up for failure if I didn't get lower.  My final goal was to me, at that time, pretty low to allow bounce back room.  But in the end my body has done what it wants to do.  I always felt my best goal was to be able to eat in a comfortable, livable manner and have my weight be normal and stable so I guess that is where I am at right now.
