Probably a dumb question

I had RNY 4 weeks ago. My highest weight was 280 but by the time surgery rolled around I was 248. I'm 5'6", if that matters. So from surgery I have only about 100 lbs to reach the goal I set for myself (140-150). I've shed 17lbs in this past month. Do I count as a lightweight?

I'm curious because I enjoy the RNY board and the Ontario board, but despite knowing that each person's journey is different and it's not advisable to compare oneself to others, I can't help but feel disappointed when I lose 17 in four weeks, and I read of someone else losing 16 lbs in one week.

If I follow the guideline that I should be down 50% of my excess weight in 6 months, then I'm on target. But I thought I'd check to see if the LWs consider me to be one, too (or not). I'd really like to know. Because if I am, then I want to spend more time here with people posting experiences that are bound to be more similar to my own.

Cheers!

Welcome to the LW's board. Around here, we don't get picky about who joins us regardless of their BMI/Excess weight. But the definition of a lightweight is typically a BMI under 45 or less than 150 lbs to lose.

Target weight for a BMI of 25 at 5'6" is 155.

280-155 is 125 excess lbs. 48.5 lbs lost. 48.5/125 = 38.8% lost.

Does that help?

Liz

Yes. And I also did the calculation from surgery itself, which is 17/100 for 17% in 4 weeks. :-)
I'll check again at 2 months to see how close I am to the 25% guideline.

Actually 248-155 is 93 lbs, not 100. So 17/93 = 18.27%

Hi southernlady can you help me out? I am 4'11 so my BMI target of 25 is 124 lbs

219-124 is 95 excess lbs after that I get lost... :-/

How much have you lost already?

Take that number divide by 95 and it will come out as a .something...that .point something gets turned into a percentage.
