I am scheduled for my VSG next week on 10/11/17. As you can imagine I am full of excitement and hesitation at the same time. Being 5'3" tall and reaching a max weight of about 245 pounds I have been morbidly obese for a good part of my adult life. Being a man, before I retired, I worked in a profession where suits and ties were common. The last time I bought a suit, the size was a 52-Portly. Due to my weight I have developed severe dry eye issues and glaucoma. My eye specialist referred me to to a pulmonary specialist because she stated that glaucoma in obese patients can quite often be a bi product of sleep apnea. Well a sleep study conformed OSA. I am very compliant with this darned machine but i hate it with a passion. I have also had several hernia repairs and the surgeon told me that if I didn't lose the weight we would meet again.

Not long ago my wife asked if I would consider WLS. Until then I never thought I would qualify but having sleep apnea as a co-morbidity, I do meet the criteria to quality. I am ready for the changes.

In my first post on OH, a person said they hard a hard time relating to lightweights (me) because I am currently at 203#. I have never considered myself to be a lightweight, but I hope to someday.

LOL! I know that sometimes it is implied that us "lightweights" have it easy. However, we usually end up with WLS for the same health reasons as everyone else. And though we may get to goal faster, the harder work of maintaining is the same for all of us.

You are soooo right!! I had 5 friends who had the RNY before me and they weren't LW's but we have the same struggles as I do.

Thanks to all. I did fix my typo. For some reason I keep saying my weight in the hundreds too. Must be some sort of subconscious slip. Someday soon I hope to be right.

Welcome to the LW board!

LOL!

I remember how funny it felt to be called a lightweight too! Especially since I was almost rounder than I was tall! I am 61.5 inches tall and my waist line was 55!

Congrats on the beginning of your journey!

Welcome! You're going to love the control you will have post WLS. Of course WLS isn't EASY but it's so much more doable than the traditional methods.

I am so close to being rid of my CPAP I can almost TASTE it!

Hi Roz,

Thank you for asking. My surgery went very well. The doctor found that I had an abdominal hernia which is what I suspected. The gas they fill you with really made the hernia painful. After the gas passed so did the hernia pain. I had no other pain at all. I got the rx for pain meds filled on the way home from the hospital but did not take any. This has been great. I am currently on the soft diet and doing great. I was 190 pounds this morning. The morning of surgery I was 211. So a loss of 21# in 3 weeks. I am a happy camper. I will get the hernia fixed later after getting to a better weight.
