Dear Janna: You are in my thoughts and prayers as you go into surgery. Mine was just 4 weeks ago, same doctor, same hospital. All went well with me and I pray yours will be the same with no complications and a speedy recovery. Look forward to seeing you on the "Losing Side" Love, Santina

I GOT THE JOB! Jan. 30, 2007
on January 30, 2007 10:28 am
I start tomorrow! I have just been hired for West Coast Transportation!  It is a great company, great pay, not too far from home.  I am so excited!

So I have been working at my new job for over a month now.  It is a perfect fit.  One thing is that no one there knows that I had surgery.  Would they have treated me differently if I was MO?  Probably.  Would I have been hired if I was still MO?  Probably not.  I don't know if I will ever tell them that I had surgery.  Not because I am ashamed or anything but I don't want them to look at me differently than they see me as they see me right now.  Maybe I am imagining that they will see me differently but for now I am not going to take that risk.  I can finally be me now that I have lost the weight.  I am a confident woman.  I like who I am.  That person was always there.  Just buried in all that fat.

My Story

Janna's Journey

I have been researching Gastric Bypass Surgery for 4 years. I initially heard about it when Carnie Wilson had her surgery. I followed her progress and went to my PCP in 2001 to inquire about surgery. He put me on Meridia for 6 months. Unfortunately he passed away 9 months later and I never went to another PCP to continue the prescription. The Meridia did work. At least I think it did. I lost 50 lbs. I don't know if that was because of the cost of the drug which is expensive so I HAD to lose weight...haha
In 2003 I went back to see my PCP that I had with Group Health. I was again wanting a referral. He wouldn't even consider it. No way, no how, Group Health would not approve it. He sent me to a dietician.

My husband currently has TriWest Insurance. I decided to try again. My weight has been increasing. In June I saw my new PCP about a lesion I had on my tush. I told the receptionist that I had a spot on my bum. When I got there the assistant said let me look at your thumb. I said thumb? I laughed and told her I told them my BUM. haha

The Dr. then came in and said what is on your thumb? LOL
Anyway the lesion on my BUM was nothing. Cool.
Then I asked him that I am considering Gastric Bypass Surgery. He started asking me questions, calculated my BMI and such. He said he thought I may have Sleep Apnea. I had never even heard of Sleep Apnea until this Dr. asked me some questions. I thought all this time I was tired, irritable and had headaches because I was sleeping wrong, morbidly obese or lazy. I always feel like I am in a fog and have to have an afternoon nap. So he had my labs done and sent me to a Sleep Study.

Last weekend I had my sleep study done. That was quite interesting! They came in after 2 hours of sleeping and put a CPAP machine on me. My reading will be done August 30th. Cool.
I received my referrals to see Dr. James Weber in the mail from TriWest. I was so excited to see that. I called the office that minute. They said I had to go to the required seminar which he held each month. Okie dokie. I can do that.

I went to the seminar. Dr. Weber is a very educated, compassionate man who wholeheartedly believes in his patients and good health. I feel very confident in having this man perform my surgery. (If approved) I do have to admit that I didn't really learn anything new at this seminar that I didn't already know about Gastric Bypass. But I listened and took down notes.
Now my one on one consult is Sept. 23rd. In the meantime I am seeing the Psychologist, Nutritionist, having a complete physical and other labs done to have most of what I need completed before seeing Dr. Weber. I have also started a food and exercise log. I want the best possible results from this surgery and want to be in the best possible shape. I have started walking on the treadmill for 45 minutes and taking vitamins. I have also stopped drinking diet soda. That was hard!
I will update more as I have my other appointments completed!
