The psych eval!

Nov 01, 2011

Today was the dreaded psych eval (do you hear the scary music building in the background?). I have never been to any kind of psychologist, counselor, or therapist before so I really wasn't sure what to expect. Seriously, though, I figured it wouldn't be too awful--mostly a rubberstamp type visit to get me on my way to insurance approval nirvana. Mostly, I was right; it wasn't an in depth baring of the soul or anything, but it was a very good visit. I really liked the psych who did the eval. She was a normal person who really seemed to understand the struggle we go through in the morbidly obese world. It wasn't just me rambling while she nodded and made notes and the occasional comment. We had an actual conversation that lasted about an hour and I felt like she wanted to talk to me, and not just because my insurance was paying her to! She made several good suggestions and recommendations that I'm looking forward to implementing. So it was definitely a good visit and I'm glad that I went. I mean, not that I had a choice, of course!

So, this means that I'm another step closer to WLS and "the rest of my life." It's exciting to check off another item on the list and be able to move on to the next one. The required diet is actually going pretty good. Halloween didn't completely do me in, which was a surprise to me--although, I did ask my husband to put the candy up high where I can't reach it. It's always good to use your short-(ha!)-comings  to your advantage!

Next official WLS step is the labs, EKG, and CXR that we delayed due to my anemia. After that, I have a visit with the GYN to hopefully fix the anemia problem.

Feels good to be moving forward!
