Surgeon TestimonialGeorge G. Zorn M.D.Dr. Zorn is the greatest! I immediately felt at ease with him and the way he treated me. I'm very impressed with PacBar's whole attitude about morbid obesity! I had a great experience with the crew at PacBar too. They didn't even seem to mind all the nagging phone calls to see if I had a date yet! lol
Dr. Zorn's wonderful wife was my OR nurse and she is very sweet. Of course she has a great name and that is part of it (Becky) lol
She was very nurturing and caring and I felt so at ease in her care! My incisions are small and nice and I never felt like I had surgery, so I think Dr. Zorn did a brilliant job!!
The staff at Scripps Mercy hospital were great too! I had excellent nurses and enjoyed my stay there. The private rooms are great and very accomidating for MO patients. I was very pleased with my whole surgery experience! Thank you Dr. Zorn, thank you to his lovely wife~Becky, and thank you to all of my great nurses who made the experience a great one! I am totally happy with my whole experience!!! I give you all an A+!!!!
Thank you Dr. Zorn for saving my life! I will be forever grateful to you and God!!!

Just an update!!! on July 16, 2008 11:46 pm
It's been awhile so I thought I would throw in an update. I have been hoping to have a surgery date before posting, but hopefully that will be soon.
The alien bitches (my hernias) have been behaving again (knocking on wood), thank God!!! I went for a consult with the hernia center at UCSD and they seem to think taking the Panni off at the same time as the hernia repair is no problem. I had another consult with the Plastic Surgeon in their center that would do the Panni removal and he seems optomistic too!!! They took pictures of my panni and my rash and will write it up as convincing as possible. They said my with the severity of my hernias (and the reoccurance of them in the past) and the amount my panni hangs shouldn't be an issue as to them covering the removal. The balance issues I have from the strokes makes it even more of a medical necessity to take it off. So, praying that Medi-cal agrees!!!!
The biggest concern is my Coumadin issue with having surgery and I see my neurologist on July 23 and I'll see what he says about that. I'm also going to discuss my current issues with him because the dizziness and balance issues just aren't going away!! I just read about this condition that sounds like it could answer a lot of my issues and I want to ask him about that too. It is called Intracranial Hypertension and would explain a lot if I have it!!! Here is a link if you want to read about it, I found it on another OH profile... http://www.ihrfoundation.org/.
I'm also STILL waiting to hear about SSDI and whether they approve me or not. We are drowning financially and they are taking FOREVER!!!! I can't get a job till after the hernia operation anyway, but I feel soooooo guilty and depressed over it all! I really don't think I can work, but we can't go on much longer without some kind of income from me or we will be living on the street!!!!! Keep me in your prayers PLEASE!!!!
As always, you guys are what keep me pushing forward, and for that I thank you!!!! I LOVE OH and all of my great friends and supporters here!!!!
You are all in my prayers and in my heart!!!!!

I CAN'T believe it has been 1 year already!!! on May 21, 2008 12:00 am
Weight: 190lbs / Lost: 112 / 50 to go
Yup, that is right, today is my 1 year Surgiversary ~ WOO HOO!!!!! And what a great year it's been too!!!
105 pounds gone 80 inches gone diabetes gone high blood pressure gone sleep apnea gone
But what I've gained is so much more important and that includes all of you great friends I have made here. I couldn't even imagine this wild ride without all of you being a part of it! OH has changed my life as much as my WLS has!!! Has my year been all good and easy? NOT!!! As most of you know I suffered a few strokes in August and have some residual affects of that. But honestly, I think the WLS may have saved my life with the strokes or definitely made the outcome as good as it was. I feel very blessed to still be alive, walking, and talking!! It could have been much worse. I still have equalibrium issues, major short term memory issues, and depression, but am lucky to be alive!!! disclaimer for newbies, the strokes had NOTHING to do with my WLS!!! Hopefully it will be God's will for me to get SSDI for now until I am able to go back to work. And then there are the alien bitches that are still ever present and make my life hell, on and off! (they are my hernias if you don't know that) Hopefully they will be repaired VERY SOON!!! I am camping in both my neurologists and my surgeons offices next week until I get a surgery date! Wish me luck! lol it's only been about 4 months of dealing with this crap, UGH!!! Tonight I am going out to dinner to celebrate with my 2 surgery twins. Jolene became my best friend in our preop class and Tabitha we met in the hospital and we had fun walking the halls together. We haven't seen Tabitha since the day we left the hospital so it should be a blast!! I can't wait! So, nobody is home to take my 1 year pictures so they will be up soon, but for now there is these...
this is preop this is now and this one is just for fun, lol, it is my husband being a dork with my daughter's sunglasses on... He's so cute!!!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR BEING A PART OF THE BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE!!!!! biggest hugs and much love, Becky

April 30, 2088 ~ Cruise to Cabo!!! on April 30, 2008 11:46 am
OMGosh it was a BLAST!!! It was everything I ever dreamed it would be and more! It is very easy to get spoiled! We had a few issues that I'm not sure I would cruise Carnival again, but I definitely want to go on more cruises!!!
First, I want to thank my great friend, Carol
http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/evergreen/ for making this cruise a possibility for me. She paid my way and I will never be able to repay her for this awesome opportunity. We really had a great time!! If you want to leave her some love on her support page for me, that would be awesome!!
Second, I want to thank all of you for your prayers that my alien bitches behaved on the cruise because it worked. They gave me no issues at all, PRAISE GOD!!!!
The whole experience ROCKED and Cabo was lots of fun and talk about delicious Mexican food!!! We took a water taxi to "The Office" a highly recommended restaurant and that was such a fun, unique experience we will never forget! Mexican cheese is sooooo creamy, eating was heaven there!! lol
Speaking of eating, I really expected to gain 10 pounds there. Obviously my small pouch can't hold a lot of food, but I definitely ate way more carbs and sugar than I usually do. I figured it was a once and a lifetime thing and I did endulge. Unfortunately I don't dump much, so I was able to do more than I should've, but oh well. I only gained half a pound ~ WOO HOO!!!!!
I hope the rocking ship ends soon, it is driving me crazy!! lmao I think with my stroke and equalibrium issues it is worse for me than most, but really "someone quit rocking the boat already!!"
I will be uploading pictures soon, I took plenty!!
I left a message for my surgeon to find out when this hernia repair is going to be. Hopefully it is really soon and I will let you know as soon as I know!
Take a cruise everyone, IT IS THE BOMB!!!!!
love and biggest hugs, Becky

MRA scheduled and pain finally easing! Pictures of my bitches!! on March 1, 2008 11:18 pm
Ok, so today is my first relatively pain free day, but still a little tender if I cough or sneeze or move too fast. I am sooo sick of this crap!
So my MRA is scheduled for Tuesday, but they are giving me the runaround on the appointment with Meyer afterwards, so he can just call me or Zorn with his decision! I'm so sick of how complicated all this has to be! I'm waiting to be told the hernia repair isn't approved, that would be my luck!!! I'm just so stressed right now, I can't see straight or stay in a good mood! Our finances are so f*ed up again with my disability run out, that I can't function over the worry and stress. It is causing major fights with Mike too, and that is my least favorite thing in the world!!
Ok, I think those about sum it up!!! lol
Please just keep me in your prayers, I really need lots!!! Thanks for always being there for me, I couldn't do all of this without my OH pals!!
ok, here is a picture of the biggest bitch of my hernias!!! UGH!!!
Here is the 4 circled. There may be more, or they all may be one, but these are the definite bulges!

February 28, 2008 ~ Hernia update! on February 28, 2008 12:00 am
Let me say that all of your prayers worked in an evident way today! Dr. Zorn walked in the room and said I've been playing phone tag with Dr. Meyer. He has called me a few times, but we've never connected yet. "I just paged him right now" as soon as he finished the sentence he was told that Meyer was on line 1 for him! Too wierd and I immediately said "thank you God and OH!!!" So after talking to him, this is what was decided. I am to have another MRI/MRA of my neck to check on my blood clot (I was hoping they would say that!) and then if it all looks good, I will be taken off the coumadin permanantly. So in the meantime Zorn will put in the authorization for my hernia repair. He expects all of this to take a couple of weeks. Hello, my vacation starts March 9!!! I am NOT spending our vacation in the hospital. If it takes that long it will wait till after our vacation. But if the pain stays like this, I won't make it that long!!! No MRI date today, I will get it tomorrow. Nothing is ever easy for me, let me tell you!!! UGH!!! So, I should know more tomorrow!!! Thanks for all the prayers and support. YOU ALL ROCK!!! Now kick some pain ass for me will ya!!! biggest hugs, Becky

My Story

7 pounds of this is preop~surgery start weight is 295
"Only I own the definition of who I am" Montel Williams
Aug. 2006
Hi, my name is Becky and I am 41 years old. I have been overweight all of my adult life. I have a wonderful husband, Mike, and we have been married for 23 years. We have two beautiful daughters...Kayla is 17 and a senior in high school, and Tara is 14 and a freshman in high school. I love being a mom, though of course very challanging, and am very proud of what our daughters are becoming! My husband and I are very close and are still very much in love after all these years! I truly believe we are soulmates, and we are definitely best friends! He loves me the way I am, but I know he will love me even more when I look like I did when he met me (when I was 16). They are all 3 very supportive of me having WLS if it's what I want.
I am in a 6 month class through Kaiser that ends on Feb.22, 2007 so I'm guessing my surgery will be end of March or beginning of April 2007. My birthday is March 30 so what a great present that will be!!! My rebirthday and birthday on the same day would be awesome!! I am very excited, but of course a little nervous. It took me 3 years of thinking about it to make the final decision and I'm glad I did. I can't wait to be healthy again and be able to enjoy life!
I have a whole lot of health issues that I am ready to be done with... diabetes (meds only), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis in my knees that require cortisone shots to function, a massive hernia that has been operated on twice and returned bigger than ever (makes me look like a freak!), possible fibromyalgia, and of course depression and panic attacks. Can't wait to say goodbye to all of that!!!!
I am in a great class at Kaiser and we are all very excited to be on this journey together. I think we will be friends for life. I am already very good friends with one of them, Jolene, and I know we will be friends for life. We are getting close to a couple others too! I feel I have been blessed by God with the friends I'm making in my class and here on OH. My life is already changed because of this wealth of love and support!
I love music of all kinds, reading, and spending time with my family. I don't have a lot of hobbies now because I have no motivation, but I know that will change.
And of course none of this would be possible without God in my life. With Him all things are possible and I know he is guiding me every step of the way!
God is in Control!!
