Surgeon Testimonial

Ravi Moonka, M.D.
Dr Moonka is kind and soft spoken, very knowledgable and ready to work through any concern you might possibly have. His staff is awesome and will bend over backwards to help you out. I am very happy that i had him as a surgeon, and he was a replacemnt for a surgeon i initially went to see at Saint Francis, I was MUCH happier with Dr. Moonka.

Ok so i am very sorry i didnt post before surgery, but it seemed as if my time for getting ready was slowing coming to an end. So now that i am back at home i am posting

Surgery went awesome! I kind of compare it to a C section, well atleast in my experience, I had the first surgery of the morning, was in the pre op room at 6:30 and in the post op room at 11:00. I had an epidural which was a total suprise to me, but was awesome in the pain dept.. I walked within 5 hours of the operation ( the nurses couldnt believe how well i was doing, but im sure they say that to everyone) The whole experience was pretty easy. I was pleasantly suprised. The worst part of the whole situation was the tube that was in my nose......PURE torture, but other than that i would do the whole procedure over again if needed to. I have a feeling though that because i had such a smooth transaction the last few days that getting my protein and water might be a hassle, i dont want to jinx myself though. i I almost forgot another crappy part of my situation is my dr wants me to use heparin for the next 10 days, twice a day...thats a blood thinner that i have to inject myself with, kinda burns and I am not too find of needles. I will wrire more later i need to go lay down for the night. Thank you all  for your kind words and prayers.  If anyone has questions please let me know and i will answer any of your questions.

Liquid diet
on May 27, 2009 11:56 am
So all my pre ops went well yesterday. After seeing the nutritionist, they have decided to put me on the liquid diet till my surgery. Protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a healthy dinner is what i have to look forward to for the next 27 days. I am gettin more and more excited and very nervous at the same time. I know i can do this though, i have no doubts. I have one question? Did any of you have your husband stay the night with you the night of surgery? My husband offered but i dont think it usually happens. Well I have to get ready for work and will blog more later.

Im APPROVED!!!! I think!
on May 12, 2009 8:03 pm
ok so i get a missed call from my doctors office today, I have a message from the office saying that they had heard from their insurance approval dept and they said i was approved till the end of July. She wanted me to call her back so we could get the ball rolling. I tried calling numerous times, left 2 messages and no call back. I am a little worried like maybe it was a mistake and thats why she didnt bother calling me back, because seriously it only took them an hour or so to get an approval from my insurance. Doesnt that seem a little too good to be true??? It was too late to call the doctors office or my insurance company after work today so i get to be tortured all night thinking about it. I hope i get some time tomorrow to call and see whats up.keep your fingers crossed for me!

My Story

This is the beginning of a new journey for me. I had always been a "not skinny" kid growing up, but as soon as i got pregnant with my son at 18 the pounds started adding on. I think i had gained 80 pounds and never lost it. Pregnancy with my oldest daughter wasnt as dramatic, i had gained 30 and kept only about 10 on. Many gym memberships later i was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in December of 2003....as many of you know losing weight and thyroid problems do not mesh well. I have gained so much weight in the last few years that i stopped looking at the scale. A year and a half ago i had gone in to have a consultation with a surgeon and it looked like we were working towards me getting the surgery, I was getting really nervous and thinking maybe i had second thoughts. Chris and I had talked it through and said the only thing that would keep me from getting the surgery is if i got pregnant. Low and behold 2 weeks later i found out i was pregnant. My miracle baby, not only had i not gotten pregnant in 6 years and had no thyroid, I GOT PREGNANT... i had gotten pregnant with my youngest daughter Bethany for a reason. So now that she is almost 10 months, I am kicking it back into gear. I have a wonderful supportive family, a loving supportive husband... and im looking for a overhaul on my life.
