Two Years.

May 27, 2011

Just realized I haven't posted in over a year. Can't believe it has been two years since my surgery. Not much has happened. Well, yeah, there have been happenings. Some good some not. Guess I'll start on the bad.

Lost my surgeon in August of last year. Motorcycle accident in the dark. I don't think they ever figured out an actual cause except to say alcohol was not involved. I took that real hard. He was a wonderful man and doctor. Left behind two small children. We had a special support group meeting that week to help all of us out. Boy did we go through tissues that night. Thankfully those that were not patients of his were understanding and allowed us the entire time to grieve and to share.

And the other bad - regain. Have already put back on 35 or so pounds. Can't blame anyone or anything but me. Allowed bad habits to take over. Snacking, grazing and just plain not eating right had gotten the best of me. That and not exercising like I should. Met with my new surgeon (no, not planning a revision or anything, just follow up), my nutritionist and my dietician. I've got a great team of people on my side and all of them were helpful and offered assitance rather than scolding and lectures.

So, now the good stuff. Have gotten the eating back under my control. That doesn't mean that I have totally overcome the bad habits, I am just making better choices when they take over. Focusing on my protein again and trying desperately to beat the carb monster. Well, not so much beat him as keep him at arms length. Snacking on crunchy veggies really seems to help. Guess I need to stay away from the softer proteins too. I feel like I need to chew and that seems to be what leads to the snacking. I do have an occasional piece of chocolate but I have some of the best sugar free dark chocolate. Here is a link to YC Chocolates. They have these little pieces that they advertise for baking but they are perfect for the once in awhile treat. Each of the little bites is 10 cals. I have to find oout how the person that gave me that number found out. Must verify that. They are expensive but oh, so worth it. http://www.ycchocolate.com/

More good stuff. EXERCISING!!! Hula hooping, jumping rope and walking. The first two for at least 15 minutes a day. It is so much fun. Wish someone had gotten me to try these sooner. I am taking a HulaFit class once a week. The instructor is great. She pushes but not so hard that you feel like a failure. I still spend alot of time picking up my hoop and can't do hoop and something else at the same time, but I am better than when I first started. One of the classes included jumping rope. I am still amazed that this fat girl can get both her feet in the air at the same time and over the rope. Yup, did fall on the first try but got myself up and dusted off and tried again and was ble to keep going. I've already broken one jump rope (that's what happens when you buy one at the dollar sotre). I am walking as often as I can. When I do it is about six miles on a very hilly course. Not sure who is enjoying it more, me or the bugs. Note to self: GET BUG SPRAY!

And the bestest good stuff for me. I have decided to try and become an OH support group leader. I am very active with my support group and the current leder said it was ok to use it as mine to get the trining. She is the only one doing the group and may need help over the summer. Hopefully after I submit my application it will get approved and I can do the training quickly. I am excited about this. I generally don't put myse;lf out there like this but I am finding myself getting more and more out there. For those of you from my support group that may see this SHHHHHHHH, I'm not sharing this at group just yet.

OOOOH, gosh there is an even better bestest!!!! How could I forget Steve! Yup, I've got a significant other! Been seeing him for 3 1/2 months. Don't know where it will head but he seems to like me alot (saggy body parts and all, LOL!) and I know I like him alot. Like him so much I even got on the back of his motorcycle.

Dang this has gotten long. Oh well. I will try to post something more often. Have a wonderful Memoriakl Day weekend. ENJOY!! STAY SAFE!
