Week 1

Mar 18, 2013

The first week after surgery has been as/better than expected.  It hurt.  It still hurts, but not as bad.  I've noticed that each day the pain is less, and even moreso if I moved around/walked the day before.  I was on a regime of medicine the first 5/6 days and then tried to not take any pain medicine yesterday (Sunday) and I regretted it at about 9pm.  I realize it's ok to take them right now, I will heal better.

CVS would not fill my pain med the other night because it was a resident on the JH script, yes, that doesn't make any sense.  I was so impressed with the lady doctor on staff that evening (10p) as she tried and tried to get through to CVS that it was normal.  Finally, she called another CVS, Casey ventured into unknown territory, bless his heart, and after about 10 phone calls, literally, my script was filled.  Unnecessary, and a reminder to switch pharmacies.  The binding garment the OT provided and proved invaluable in helping my pain, I can't imagine going through this without it.  I'm hoping the docs office will be able to provide a longer one when i visit, as this keeps rolling at my lower belly roll.  Ugh.  Best way to wear it is is over a thin tank top, under a tee.  Otherwise, it feels like rubbing scratchy wool socks on your fresh wounds.

It's been a challenge to get all my fluid in, definitely much harder than I thought it would be.  I haven't been hungry, and have resisted temptation quite well.  Temptation #1- Coconut shrimp & crab cakes at Ruby Tuesday with Casey, his mom, and brother.  Temptation #2- Nacho guts with melted cheese, made me do a double take at Case's bowl.  Temptation #3- Mini Reeces cups OPENED in my pocket last night.  What were they doing there you might wonder?  My beloved placed them there to hold, after her tried to talk be into eating them "their really small and they have peanut butter in them, it's protein..." hahahahahaaaaaaa.  He ate half the bag to counteract too much insulin from his pump while we were in the middle of the grocery store.  I think having the constant reminder that my stomach is freshly CUT AND STAPLED has helped tremendously, go figure!

Overall though, I've been very happy about my mental ability to talk myself off the ledge.  I was terrified to smell good food at first, thinking it might send me into a fit of jealousy and anger at not being able to share in it.  For the most part, the smell really has helped me get through. It's almost as if I can taste the smell and boy let me tell you, everything smells so much more intense!  It's pretty cool actually.  I just pray that it stays this way, but I have a feeling it won't.

Casey incredible mother came out the night before I left the hospital and brought me home the next day.  Then, she went on a shopping trip and bought us a new tv.  Her excuse, she had movies to watch and I'm going to be home for 6 weeks.  We have been holding out to purchase the TV we really wanted, but let me tell you, this is pretty great.  Totally unexpected and I am so incredible grateful to have a loving, caring, and generous extended family.  His dad and my mom are coming out at the end of the month, so it should be nicer out and I'll be feeling better.  I can't wait to go home and surprise people with my results!

Highest weight- probably 289ish, recorded- 286, pre-surgical visit- 282, day of surgery- 274.9  I didn't weigh myself after to see how many surgical fluid pound were added..

Week 1- 268  (-7)   I can live with that!
