19 months out w/ a few pics

Mar 06, 2012

Here I sit, 19 months out from RNY thinking about my journey this far. Weight as of 3/5/12 = 128lb . Total weight loss = 144lb.

My dad passed away a few weeks ago so that's got me thinking about the preciousness of life, and how it can so quickly be taken from us.
We lived 3,000 miles away for the passed 6+ years so I haven't seen him in about 3 years. So he hasn't seen the skinny Karly, but that's ok. He's watching over me now and I'm sure he's proud :).

I have a friend that just had her Gastric Bypass about 3 weeks ago. She asks me questions about things newbies have concerns about. ..... And it got me thinking about how far I've come and how incredibly easy it is to forget what we went through.

I'll be the first person to admit I am by no means a model WLS patient. I forget my vitamins often, Don't get all my fluids in often, eat WAY TOO MANY CARBS often, don't always exercise regularly, consume alcohol, drink carbonated beverages, drink coffee daily, chew gum, eat sugar, drink out of straws, never weigh my food, don't always eat protein first, ...... BUT ...... With all that said ..... It's still the best decision I've ever made, and I would never, ever take it back in a million years.

It's a struggle daily to make concious healthy choices. Granted, it's not as difficult as it was before surgery. But.... Sometimes I'd rather have a slice of pizza then a piece of grilled chicken with a salad. Ya know? .... And in all honesty ... That's ok! I feel like as long as I don't make it a daily habit. Or as long as I don't revert back to "Old Karly" .... 1 slice of pizza here, or a soft serve icecream there is A-OK because you know why..... This is life now! And I'm not going to tell myself NO on everything. Otherwise I'll start hating my RNY and start resent that I can't eat the things I love. When in fact I can eat them! It just has to be in moderation!
Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love eating healthy. Our "go to dinner" in my house is grilled chicken, roasted broccoli, and a side salad. And that's AMAZING!!! So I'm not completely a lost cause ;)

And I've discovered a fabulous protein shake I love! :
1 scoop chocolate protein
1 banana
1 handful fresh blackberries (about 6-7)
1 handful ice (about 4-5 cubes)

Soooooo good y'all!

I haven't been exercising much lately at all and have lost about 2-3 lbs in the last 2 weeks and I'm almost positive it's from losing muscle mass. Which makes me sad. My arms and thighs feel extra flabbylately so I've gotta start toning again.

I'm still so pleased with my weight loss. I've had absolutely no complications with my surgery and am SO Thankful for that.

Here are a few pictures. The first is one of the last times I saw my dad in 2007 at my brothers wedding. And the following is at his service after he passed away on 2/25/12.
