About Me

Feb 26, 2011

Since I have nothing new to report on the surgery front (next diet weigh in is 3/7/11), I will write a bit about myself cuz I felt like doing so. Let's see. I am a Gemini and live true to the Gemini personality in that I am completely indecisive and have two very unique sides to my personality. I'm married to a Gemini, Roger (or Roggie to me) who is the opposite of me, except in the inability to make decisions which makes life very interesting for us. Everything you read about Geminis will tell you we are doomed to not make it as a couple. I am happy to report we have been married for 10 years and plan on being together til we are old and saggy.

I have been a stay at home mom for 10 years and I have two and a half beautiful boys. I say half because I have a stepson. Darik (14) and Alex (10) are mine and they are wonderful, loving, compassionate, giving, fantastic boys. Ian (14) is the same but has the unfortunate reality of not living with us. Luckily he is only about 6 minutes away. I home school my boys and have done so since Darik was 7. Alex has been home schooled his entire life. Though a challenge, we all love it and will continue to do so.

I have three cats, all girls whom I adore. Check out the pic of them in my pictures to learn more about them.

My interests include tattoos (I have 14 and counting), writing, crocheting, photography, reading, and word puzzles.

I've been a writer all my life and in 2007 I discovered NaNoWriMo. It stands for National Novel Writing Month and it is a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November. People from all over the world take place and I tell you, it changed my life. I'd always wanted to write a novel, but never had the self discipline to write more then twenty or so pages. I have won/completed the challenge every year since (you win simply by completing the 50k). There is no prize, per se, except the knowledge that you wrote a novel! So, I've written four novels. Two of which I self published. My latest novel is still in the writing process (it will be much longer then 50k) and it's a romance. Previously I've written two supernaturals and one book of short stories with just about every genre covered.

Crocheting... I'm not that great at, I only know a couple of stitches, but I've been able to make blankets, hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, pouches, purses and I'm trying stuffed critters. I usually only crochet in fall and winter. Why? I don't know. It just seems to be the time of year I pick it up.

Photography.. I'm a complete amateur and only have a (broken) digital camera. I'd love to take some lessons and buy a much better camera. It's on my "someday" list.

Reading.. I am always reading. Always. Last year I decided to keep track and see how many books I read over the course of a year. I lost track in November due to my mom's heart attack. Nothing seemed to matter anymore. I was in the 170's.

Word puzzles.. Give me Scrabble, Text Twist, Crosswords, Word Searches, any of those and I'll be a happy camper.

Well, my laptop is about to die and its 12:30 in the morning so I'm done for now. I'll probably add more later. Hopefully someone will read this after all my hard work! :) Just kiddin. I'm an avid journaler too, so I guess this is just like that.

(Edited to add)
It's the next morning and I realized I haven't shared the big, unfortunate news. I need back surgery. My PCP is encouraging me to go for that surgery first. I am going to fight it tooth and nail. They say that the damage is so bad (I had an MRI last week) that weight loss will not help it. Only surgery. You know what... I think they are wrong. I think it will help. How can it NOT help to lose weight. I carry most of my weight in my stomach. What is that pulling on? My back. I have a huge butt.. what is that weighing on? My back. So I am going forward with wls and lose weight for at least a year, THEN I will consider back surgery. So there.
