Surgeon Testimonial

Patrick Coates, M.D.
I didn't even SEE Dr. Coates at any point of my surgery or my stay in the hospital. I think that since he had my life in his hands that maybe he could have stopped by. Oh well, I'll take surgical compentence over bedside manner any day. Other than that, when I met him for 10 minutes at my first Pre-Op appt, he seemed nice enough. Good luck!

6 Month Update
on October 29, 2008 3:16 pm
Well hello to everyone out there in the OH world. Today is officially my 6 month surgiversary. Here are the stats so far:

Highest Starting Weight: 354 lbs (10/07)
Weight @ time of Surgery: 336 lbs (04/29/08)
Weight at 1 month out: 300 lbs (-36 lbs ss (Since Surgery == -54 lbs sh (since heaviest))
Weight at 3 months out: 262.8 (-73.2 lbs ss == -91.2 lbs sh)
Weight at 6 months out: 230 lbs (-106 lbs ss = -124 lbs sh)

Things I have accomplished so far:
1. Riding EVERY roller coaster at Great America!
2. Dropping down from a 2X/3X shirt to a Normal Large!
3. Dropping pants sizes from 28 (I did own ONE pair of 32's!!!) to a 20!
4. Crossing my legs like a "girl"!
5. Sitting in EVERY booth and having PLENTY of room!
6. Having my sister walk right past me because she didn't realize it was me! (That one was priceless)
7. ENJOYING working out and even looking forward to it!
8. Climbing stairs without being out of breath!
9. Bicycling to/from the gym!
10. Watching the scale go down and down and down, and being able to move from the highest block on a gym scale down to the next 50 lb block!
11. Incredibly better S-E-X!
12. Having multiple men interested (still a little surprising)!
13. Being called "Skinny", no matter how untrue it is!
14. Being called "The Skinny Friend" by my best friend who I have always been bigger than.
15. Buying underwear that are actually smaller than my shoe size!
16. Having to replace shoes (SO weird)!
17. Actually liking a picture of me and feeling like I actually look "normal".
18. Making healthy meals that taste great!
19. So many more...

This is an incredible journey. I haven't had any complications and I haven't had any problems eating anything, which I am so so so so thankful for.  I don't know if I'm losing enough on bottom, but I am sure my body will do whatever it wants to do, and at this point, I am totally fine with that.

I am making my plans to go skydiving in November, which I am SO incredibly excited about, that I can't even really explain it. It has been a lifelong goal of mine and I am so happy that I can actually physically DO IT  now! I will be posting before and after pics later on today.

Thank you all for your support and good luck to everyone considering GBP.

My Story

Well, I will try to make this quick and easy. I am sure that just like everyone else on here that I have done the same things. WW, JC, South Beach, Cabbage, you name it, I've done it. I have pretty much been overweight since childhood. I think the first time I can REALLY remember being aware that I was fatter than anyone else my age was in third grade when 2 of my VERY skinny friends and I went back-to-school shopping for clothes. We picked out SPECIFIC outfits to wear the first day of school so we would all match and look "Oh So Cool!" Well, you can guess how the story went... they looked fabulous and I just looked like a midget overweight belly dancer. NOT a pretty picture! Anyway, I have been trying to lose weight for years, and I finally came to the decision to have WLS after talking to a co-worker who had it and convinced me that it wasn't a cop-out like I had thought, but it was a TOOL for weight loss. So, here I am, on my journey. By the way, I am 25 years old, 350 lbs, married to a wonderful man (*Update- I WAS married to a what I THOUGHT was a wonderful man- Not so true anymore 8/17/08), no children (Infertile due to PCOS caused mostly by being overweight). Born and raised in Modesto, CA- Went to College in Chicago, IL where I met my husband, moved back to CA in 2003, and now, just working for the county I live in. I love life, family and movies. I most look forward to going to Great America or any other amusement park and not being afraid to ride ANY ride I want.
