Glen F Strickland, M.D. Went to a support gruop meeting in May 2007 Dr Strickland was the speaker I was very impressed with him. I decided at that point that I wanted him to do my surgery. When the office called to schedule my consultation I told them I wanted Dr. Strickland and was informed I would have to wait a couple of weeks to see him. I decided to wait. So far I don't have any negative comments about him.
Well on January2 that morning I called Aetna to find the status of my approval. I was informed that they received the info on December 21 and it was still in a review status. That evening i went to the Riverside support group meeting (now over the holidays i had changed my mind about having the bypass). I stated this information at this time and told Lynn that I had found that my paperwork was in review she told me that I needed to get in touch with Donna to let her know I had changed surgery types. Because paperwork may need to be resubmitted. Someone also stated that Aetna may not cover lap band but I already knew that they cover both procedures. Well when I got home I called Aetna to find out what steps needed to be done to change type of surgery and lo and behold I was informed that surgery was approved that afternoon. (for bypass) She stated that the Drs office only have to resubmit new procedure codes to the review staff. I talked with Donna the next morning and told her she said no problem but she need to get the hard copy approval in hand before changing procedure codes I called Aetna to see if they would fax a copy but because the approval was so new a letter hadn't been generated by the system and they still wouldn't fax copy if it had. So right now I'm waiting on approval letter.
Well I finally finished my 6 months of supervised diet required by Aetna on December 5. The Dr that I was seeing (Dr Antonetti) office said they would send my papers over to Dr Stricklands office that afternoon. Hopefully the insurance person will call me next week saying that she is about to submit my info to Aetna. The best Christmas present will be an approval from Aetna saying YES!!!!!
Well here goes my story. I am presently a 44 year old single, divorced mother of 2 wonderful children. Brea'nna 16 in the 11th grade and Brandon 12 in the 7th grade. I weighed 139lbs all through highschool. I slowly started with the weight gain when I got married. The years flew by and the weight went up. I would tell myself I'll never let myself get to 200 then i said 275 then I said 300. Well I got to 315 and said something had to be done. I got down to 290 and have been up and down for the past 3 years. (Never got back to 300) My PCP has been trying to get me to look into the RNY surgery for the last 5 years. I am currently o n3 diffrent blood presure pills. At one time i was on 5. It seems that the pills work for a while then my pressure goes back up. She says that she knows if I can get my weight down this will help with my pressure. When they came out with the lap band I thought this was what I wanted but my insurancecompany didn't pay for this. The following year they did but the surgeon I wante to do my surgery were'nt performing this surgery. This year I called them back and they were now doing the lapband. Went to a seminar in May 07 and had consult in June started with 6 month supervised diet with dietician in June. I'll be finished in November. Well after finding this wonderful forum and reading the journeys I went to a support meeting and found that the RNY surgery would be better for me. I went back on Sept 25 to speak with the surgeon and told him my reasons for wanting the RNY and he said ok. He says that he wants to Put a filter in before surgery. I hope that you will guide me, pray for me as I go through this journey.
