Flashback Friday Devotion #49 [breakfast] & baby pic

May 13, 2010

Hi, Everyone.
Thank you for all your prayers for a safe delivery (by C-section) of our 8th grandbaby (2nd granddaughter) yesterday. For anyone who missed my announcement, Ivy Ann was born yesterday morning, weighing 10 lbs. 2 oz. (hence the C-section) and 20" long. Mother (daughter-in-love) and father (son) are enjoying getting to know their first baby. Ivy is so sweet, and I can't wait to paint her long finger nails. ;)

We spent some time last night with Ivy, her parents, and other family members. It was sweet. Before we left, we prayed a blessing over this sweet little family. It seemed to move mommie's family, many of whom do not have a personal relationship with Jesus.
It reminded me that others are watching those of us who believe. We are called to a higher standard of living. We represent our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and while we are not perfect, we must be ever aware that we should be different from the world. Where there is hatred, we must sow seeds of love. Where there is discord, we must be chords of harmony. While we cannot always agree with those who do not believe as we do, we are called to love and to love unconditionally, as we have been loved unconditionally. May we be found faithful and loving.
Please pray for those having surgery today and those recovering from surgery. Please pray for those who are post-surgery and pregnant.
Today's devotion is from my personal journal dated May 27, 2007, so it was not written as a devotion. The Lord took me on a 60-day journey, which not only helped me to prepare me for the idea of having WLS, but it was during those 2 months that I learned more about what it means to hear from the Lord. I am nobody special. The Lord desires to speak personally to each of us.
Blessings,
Mary

Flashback Friday Devotion #49 [breakfast]

I woke up this morning thinking about food, I was so hungry! Instead of my usual "Good morning, Lord," I spoke the word "breakfast!" The Lord whispered to me, "Break fast."
"Yes, Lord," I replied. That's what the word "breakfast" means--"break fast." It means to break the fast of having gone all night without food, by eating. I was perplexed as to where the Lord was going with all of this, so I began to pray, asking Him to speak to me.
The Lord reminded me of a verse, which I found in Jeremiah 15:16, "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart."
One is taught that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as it revs up the body's engine and strengthens the body for the day. The Lord reminded me that meditating on His Word every morning will feed my soul, strengthen my "inner man."
Just as I ask the blessing on my meal, it is important to ask the Lord's blessing upon His precious Word and on me, so that as I meditate on it, "chew" it, search it, He will speak to me through His Word. The prayer of blessing is not a long one, because the in-depth prayer comes through His Word. That last part was new to me.
I approached my quiet time this morning that way. I prayed a short prayer, asking God to open His Word to me, to help me see, hear, and obey. Then I read each verse slowly. I found myself praying, as I was meditating on His Word. Some verses led me to confess, some to give thanks, some to intercede for others, some to petition for myself.
When I finished, I felt nourished, strengthened, and peaceful. I was left shaking my head, that God could teach me something new about how to have a quiet time. What an awesome God!

Today, bless the Lord and yourself, by praying over every meal and praying through any verses from the Bible. Listen to a young Jessy Dixon singing "Lord, Prepare Me."
