STEP2: (THEN MAKE ONE APPT FOR YOUR CK-UP TO SEE IF YOU QUALIFIED FOR THE BARIATRICS SURGERY)

STEP3:(ONE APPT WITH NUTRITION AND ONE APPT FOR BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE)

STEP4: (MEET INDIVIDUALLY WITH NUTRITION AND TWO MONTH FOLLOW-UP. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO BEGIN A FORMAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM WELL, BECAUSE YOU NEED TO LOOSE 10% OF YOUR WEIGHT exm: IF YOU WEIGHT 280 NEED TO LOOSE 28 POUNDS THE FRIST TWO DIGETS OF YOUR WEIGHT)...AND YOU WILL MEET INDIVIDUALLY WITH BEHAVIORAL MED FOR AN INITIAL CONSULT AND WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEN (A 6-WEEK BEHAVIORAL MED GROUP) AND MORE APPT WITH BEHAVIORAL..!!)

  IAM 34 YRS OLD, PUERTORICAN.. MARRIED TO A WONDERFUL MAN FROM GHANA FOR 17 YRS; WE HAVE TWO BEAUTIFUL AND VERY BRIGHT BOYS (17 YRS OLD AND A 2 YRS OLD.) 
 
 PRETTY MUCH I'VE BEEN OVER WEIGHT IT WASEN'T A PROBLEM UNTIL I REACHED 280, I AM ONLY 5'2. I WASEN'T HAPPY AT ALL! 
 
 WELL 2003 I GOT PREGNANT AT MY 7 MONTH OF MY PREGNANCY I HAD A SLIP AND FALL ACCIDENT I FRACTURED MY RIGHT ANKLE IN 3 PLACES..! I WAS IN A BIG MESS! I COULDN'T WALK, MOVE YOU NAME IT!  AT THAT TIME I WAS 230 POUNDS AND BLEW -UP TO 280... IT TOOK ABOUT A YEAR IN HALF FOR ME TO HAVE MY HARDWARE REMOVE FROM MY RIGHT ANKLE YES, A SECOUND SURGERY... OMG HELP ME! SOO THAT LEAD ME TO (WLS) CAUSE BEING AT 280... I DIDN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING I JUST DIDN'T CARE ABOUT MY SELF... I WAS DEPRESS, JUST LOSS MY MOM AND I FELT LIKE CRAP! I TOOK CARE OF MY RESPONSABILITY HAS A MOTHER AND WIFE ...JUST ONLY!  I WAS REACHING 300 AND I SAID TO MY SELF" STOP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!" SO THATS WHAT I AM DOING NOW! 

 

   JOURNEY # ONE             

JULY 1 2005- HAD MY CONSULTATION WITH DR. ARCAND, IT WENT VERY WELL! HE EXPLAINED IN DETAILS AND DREW A PICTURE OF WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO! HE ASKED ME FEW QUESTIONS REGARDING ABOUT MY HISTORY OF BEING OVERWEIGHT AND WHAT KIND OF EFFORT I DID TO LOOSE WEIGHT..ect  HE ASKED ME WHAT PROCEDURE I WANT I SAID "I WANT THE GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY" HE SAID THAT IT WAS A GOOD CHOICE.. AND EXPLAINED MORE ABOUT IT...A QUICK LOOK AT MY STOMACH AND SAID THAT I WAS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE SURGERY. {TODAY I COULD OF KNOW MY SURGERY DATE BUT, MY 2 YRS OLD WAS TIRED AND CRYING MY HUSBAND WAS TIRED HE WORKED A DOUBLE SHIFT AND I DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT ANY LONGER SO THEY WILL CALL ME BACK IN A FEW DAYS TO BOOK MY SURGERY!   [future up date]  

 JULY 9 2005- THURSDAY MORNING I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY SURGEON'S OFFICE SAYING "THAT THEY HAVE A DATE FOR MY SURGERY WHICH IS FOR {AUG 18, 2005} AND A PRE-OP FOR {AUG 11}" AND AS SOON I HANGED UP THERE WAS ANOTHER CALL THIS TIME IT WAS THE NUTRITION'S OFFICE SAYING THAT THEY HERD THE NEWS AND THAT THEY WANT TO SEE ME ON {AUG 3}... I WAS SO CONFUSED THAT I HAD TO STOP  AND THINK WHAT THEY SAID OVER THE PHONE...! TRYING TO PUT THE DATES AND LOCATION IN THE RIGHT ORDER! THE SURGERY IS AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND THE NUTRITION IS AT THE FALLON CLINIC OVER ON PLANTATION ST. -CAN'T WAIT TO BE OVER WITH... ! hahaha!

 JULY 19 2005- FCHP CALLED AND SAID THAT MY SERVICES ARE AUTHORIZED AND ALSO I GOT A LETTER FROM THEM...! AND ANOTHER LETTER FOR MY  POST-OPERATIVE VISIT {AUG/26/05}... GUSH THEY DON'T WAIST ANY TIME..! THIS FALLON PROGRAM IS STRICT AND LONG..BUT IN THE LONG RUN IT'S THE WAY TO GO! YOU GO THROUGH THE STEPS AND THEY WILL DELIVERED... THEY DON'T GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND.[future update]   

 AUG 3 2005- I MET WITH MY NUTRITIONIST.. I THOUGHT THAT I WAS THE ONLY PATIENT TO BE SEEN I GUESS WRONG..!  THERE WAS ANOTHER LADY AND WE BOTH HAVING THE SURGERY ON THE SAME DAY "INTERESTING" WELL, SHE EXPLAINED ABOUT THE STEPS THAT I'M GOING TO FOLLOW BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY..AND A FOOD LOG THAT I HAVE TO BRING BACK TO HER ON MY NEXT VISIT.  [future update]

 AUG 11 2005- WENT TO MY PRE-UP GUESS WHAT I AM PREGNANT {what the #$%*&}  I FELT HAPPY IN AWAY BUT KIND OF MAD -can't really explained it- WELL I GUESS MY SURGERY WILL BE CANCEL FOR NOW!  DR.ARCAND SAID WHEN I DELIVERED MY BABY OR WHAT EVER HAPPENS TO GIVE HIM A CALL TO RESCHEDULE THE SURGERY.   ( I HAVE A NEW JOURNEY TO  FOLLOW)  BY FOR NOW!  (future update)

APRIL 1 2006- I  HAD A BABY GIRL! HER NAME IS *MIA AMA* -7 POUNDS AND 20 INCHES LONG !- THANKS THE LORD FOR MY HEALTHY  BABY GIRL AMEN!.. YES, I AM READY FOR MY SURGERY! I CALLED DR. ARCAND AND I TOLD HIM THAT I DELIVERED MY BABY AND EVERYTHING WENT WELL AND THAT I'M READY FOR MY SURGERY HE SAID "THAT IS TO EARLY THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FEW MONTH FOR MY BODY TO BE HEALTHY AGAIN ..!  (he wants me to call Dr. Bourne to see what she wants me to do and to call nutrition)  [future update]


 AUG 7 2006- DR. ARCAND CALLED WANTS TO KNOW HOW IS MY BABY DOING AND IF EVERYTHING IS O.K  I SAID "EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL..! ALSO HE ASKED ME TO LOSE 10 POUNDS  TO TAKE OFF SOME OF THE BABY WEIGHT OFF FOR ME TO HAVE MY BIG DAY! (I'm done with Dr. Bourne (behavior med) I allways will  have appt with nutrition (future update)


  SEP 11 2006- I HAD A VISIT WITH NUTRITION I ONLY LOST 3 POUNDS GUSH I THOUGHT I LOST MORE THAN THAT ACORDING TO MY SCALE I DID hahaha  I HAVE 7 MORE TO GO...!! (future update)


 OCT 9 2006- I HAD A VISIT WITH NUTRITION AND I MET MY GOAL..! SHE SAID THAT I DID A GOOD JOB! BUT, SHE WANTS ME TO AIM FOR 60 GRAMS PROTEIN EACH DAY (2 ONCES AT EACH MEAL) JUST FOR ME TO HAVE AN  IDEA OF WHAT I WILL BE EATING AFTER SURGERY.{ DAMM I DO EVERYTHING THEY ASKED ME TO DO BUT THEY ALWAYS WANT MORE... I KNOW IT'S FOR MY OWN GOOD BUT PLEASE  LET ME WORRY ABOUT THAT LATER.. -I WANT MY SURGERY I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A LONG TIME!-} SHE WANTS TO SEE ME IN 3 WEEKS 11/13/06 ( MY SURGEON SAID THAT WHEN MY BABY TURNS 6 MONTH AND I LOSE MY 10 POUNDS  THAT I WILL BE ALL SET FOR MY BIG DAY)    {now what} [future update]  


 NOV 13 2006- WELL TODAY  I HAD MY APPT WITH NUTRITION IT WENT O.K  (TOTAL LOSS 12 POUNDS ) ( my weight is 255) SHE SAID THAT I'M DOING A GOOD JOB AND TO CONTINUE WITH THE PROTEIN DIET AND THAT SHE WANTS TO SEE ME IN ABOUT 6 WEEK  1/8/07 OR UNTIL DR. ARCAND CALLS ME FOR SURGERY ..  I'M GOING TO CALL HIM TOMORROW NO MORE WAITING FOR ME  I JUST WANT ANSWERS !  [future update]


 NOV 17 2006-  YESTERDAY I CALLED DR. ARCANDS OFFICE .. HIS NURSE CALLED ME TWICE : EXPLAINED WHY HE DIN'T CALL BACK AND THE OTHER WAS SHE RECEIVED MY REPORT FROM NUTRITION ANDTODAY AGAIN SHE CALLED EXPLAINING THAT DR. ARCAND RECEIVED MY REPORT  AND THAT HE WILL DISCUSS MY PROGRESS WITH THE TEAM  (the team has  monthly meeting to discuss our progress and to see if we are ready for surgery).  WHO KNOWS MAYBE I WILL BE APPROVE  FOR THIS MONTH...!  [future update]


 DEC 1 2006- WELL I GOT HOME  AND I HAD A MESSAGE ON MY ANSWER MACHINE THAT TO CALL NUTRITION...I CALLED AND SUE TOLD ME THAT ((I GOT THE APPROVAL FOR THE WLS)) AND THAT I HAD TO GO TO THIS 90 MIN NUTRITION CLASS  (DEC 13 2006 @ 3:30) TALKS ABOUT THE FOOD STAGES BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY...AND ALSO THAT I WILL GET A CALL FROM DR. ARCANDS OFFICE  for my consultation...STILL WAITING .   [future update]

 FINALLY I GOT THAT CALL.. WELL THIS MORNING @10:30 am DR.ARCANDS OFFICE SCHEDULE MY CONSULTATION FOR 1/8/07. he's so booked  gush well better than nothing he-he        [future update]

 DEC 13 2006- WELL I WENT TO MY PRE-OP NUTRITION APPT... The class was for an hour "lots of information" .There were few people in the class ...some had their surgery date.... I think Angela and my self were the only one's waiting for our surgery date...The nutritionist that was there she was great!! giving us free samples of protein, vit and such.. and lots of information about everything that we need to know about the food stages.. and where to buy some products. She knows her job and thank to her.      *notes to remember  When I'm done with Dr. Arcands consult  1/8/07  I need to call nutrition to make an pre-op appt- stages 4&5-*[future update]  


 JAN 8 2007- My consultation with Dr. Arcand went very well ...way back in 2005 I was ready to have my surgery..but  it got cancel cause I was 6 days pregnant ....So he already knows what procedure I want the  ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS ..He explaines we talk and I sign some paper work and we said our goodbye and I went up-stairs to meet with is secretary name Lisa...she booked my surgery for feb/6/2007 and she also gave me some other appt for (1) my patient education- w/kathy jan/19/2007 @3:00 (2) my preadmission physical w/beth kozlicak n.p  jan/19/2007 @3:30 (3) my anesthesia orientation is for feb/2/2007 @ 2:00  and (4) my post-operative appt w/Dr. Arcand  feb/19/2007 @ 3:45. Ohh yes, I called nutrition and made an appt for my 4&5 food stage after surgery feb/20/2007 @ 1:00..

 JAN 19 2007- Well I went to my two appt's: (1) Patient Education appt- the nurse explains about the do's and dont's , she talks alit about the Gastric Bypass , what to expect the day of my surgery and she told me  that I will get a call  form the hospital one day prior to surgery for the time &  further instruction for surgery (2) my Preadmission Physical appt- A simple physical,  asked about my medical history, ck-blood pressure, blood work and a EKG.  *note to remember*OHH ..the nurse told me when I go to My Anesthesia Orientationto (2/2/07) for me to go to lab for them to take & save blood in case I need it.. and that I will get an orange bracelet  "one more appt and other things until surgery.  FEB 06 2007- I had my lap roux -en- y gastric bypass...everything went well..no complications..thank you God! I passed through all the food stages  (5 food stages)it wasen't  so easy at all...the only thing I had a problem  with was going through all the food stages cause my stomach wanted real food...!  3/19/07 I had a appt with nutrition and she passed me through stage 5 the last and final stage..  yeah real food... my new pouch tolerate everything even sugar too..! she wants to see me in about 4 weeks.This is my second time starting the wls ..my frist time was in 2005 my surgery got cancel cause I was 6 days pregnant at that point of my life I was 280  ( my highest weight)lost 40 pounds to have the surgery (it seems that I lost 40 pounds  just to get pregnant lol).  I had My baby girlin 2006. So in 2007 I got back in-to the program  I blew-up to 265 lost 10 pound to have my surgery so I was 255  ..(I had my surgery in 2/6/07) has of today 3/26/07  I'm 233 pounds.. I think I'm lossing my weight slowly but it's o.k cause eventually I will get there..!!  [future update]


 SEP 24 2007-(MY 6 MONTH CK-UP) My appt went o.k he said that I look good and that I'm doing good with regards to weight loss ;I lost 96 lbs since I started the WLS (280 current 184lbs) ..we discussed about my suppliments.. and if I have any problem with solid foods..ect

 Something Interesting he said that he doesn't do the 6 month blood test cause every time the blood test comes normal.. "if something is wrong with any of his patients it's going to appear in a year"  So he wants to see me in 6 month that's when he will do the blood test..fine with me..he-he
  
 My husband ask him regards about my weight loss what is good for my height..and he said that he doesn't count numbers all that is important is that we are comfortable and that we are in a some what healthy weight ..cause we all different and some of us get stuck in a platue ..If we don't reach aur goal weight than thats o.k he just wants us to be better  and  healther than before .. "that's what counts in his book"  he made me feel so comfortable like always he's the best..talk to you soon-moji

 FEB 06 2008 - 2/6/07-2/6/08 "Happy Surgiversary To Me"

  It's been great no complications  so far 'knock on wood' the only thing that kind of bothers me is the hair thing it grows and falls out but I say 'I can't believe I still have hair' it's amazing you see all this hair falling out all over the place and you still have hair ! lol 
I have my one year out appt  with Dr. Arcand this March 10 ..this time he will order all blood work and I hope everything ck's out 
before 280 lbs and now 162 lbs all I need is 27 lbs to go  to reach my goal weight of 135 lbs

MARCH 10 2008-Today was my one year appt with Dr. Arcand I had to cancel  it dew to my sick husband ..well cause he's  my babysitter lol..

 APRIL 07 2008-O.k  I went to my one year P/Op appt everything went o.k. not bad  I thought that when the nurse will weight me I will be about 159 to 160 lbs with clothe and shoes but not it was 158 lbs just one pound over cool..! He said that I look good and everthing; he checked my stomach for hernias; we talked about my vitamins and about to do a set of blood work.. He said that some patient have problems with iron and b-12 at the one year out of surgery so for me to make sure that I  take all my vitamins: vit with iron,calcium and B-12...we also talked about plastic surgery so when I'm ready he will help me to take steps in that direction wow so that means more pain   LOL

  APRIL 13 2008- O.k well I just got my  blood work back..  "yes"  all my results  came back normal: {CBC} Platelet and Differential; Vitamin B-12 and My TSH "Very Good" No worries  just keep what I'm doing until I reach my goal and stick with it lol
  my total weight loss with surgery and on my own is 124 lbs gone (280/156 lbs)
