Surgeon Testimonial

Leon Katz
Dr. Leon Katz is my bariatric surgeon and I recommend him without reservation to anyone considering bariatric surgery. Dr. Katz is thorough (meticulous) in his practice. He explains everything in detail, does not minimize the difficulties, and inspires confidence and hope.

A few days post op I had a question about a symptom, I called the office, I was put through right to Dr. Katz who clarified my concerns and told me what to do and watch for.

The team of nurses and nutritionist(Pat, Maureen...) who handle pre op and post op details are competent and caring, keeping me and other patients on track, helping with anxiety and frustration as well as encouraging us. They are realistic and pragmatic while offering support and confidence.

Staff stress the importance of aftercare for the whole patient- physical and emotional.

Dr. Katz's practice has deep experience, skill, caring, and availability. I would like to balance this with some comment about what could be improved, but I was and am very happy with the excellent care I receive from them...and I can't think of a way to improve it!

* weeks post op
on February 19, 2009 11:16 am
I can't believe it is 8 weeks out from surgery.  My stats are good - I have gone from a size 24 to 18w.  I believe I have lost 50 pounds, but my scale does not always agree with doc's, so I'm just going along with the clothes and estimating.

I am wearing clothes that I had saved for years and kids at school tell me I look pretty. Teacher friends tell me I am melting in front of their eyes.  I feel good, I have energy. I finally started back to yoga this week. I knowI need to get going with aerobic activity, it is still
hard to go out after work.

I am eating fairly well. Protien shakes and soups are still the best - no tummy problems and taste good.  Two nice restaurants were just fine with fish entrees going down easliy and feeling nicely full.

I know my husband likes the way I look - he tells me every day that I am pretty and looking good.  Friend Eileen gave me some nice tops that are silk and pretty, so I feel good wearing them.

Problem foods are probably due to eating too fast - Turkey meatballs and sometimes chicken.  Unfortunately, I can eat crackers ( tiny bites) with no problem, and I have had more than I need.  They are easier than protein.  I am geetting all my supplements in and feel really good.

Right now I am very happy that I had the surgery and want to keep losing.

post op 1 week
on December 30, 2008 11:51 am
Post op visit - I have lost 25 pounds since starting my pre op diet on Dec 8 !  Alot is water, but definitley some fat and a little muscle - I should resolve that muscle loss with starting liquid protein today and adding yogurt, etc this week.

Today I feel good - alert, happy, tired of being at home but felt that the outing to doctor's was enough - I'll take a little walk later.

In the office I met a young women who has a date scheduled in three weeks - she is just beautiful and I stayed positive with her - tried to be realistic, but did not get into the gory details of those first post op days with drainage and all. I think I am a little traumatized by the first days with feeling so awful with the anesthesia and drugs and tubes and all.   Laproscopic still means invasive!

Anyway each day is better and I'm on my way to health.

Surgery scheduled 12/22/08

Almost surgery day. You know how when you buy a new car you keep seeing that type on the road?  Well I keep meeting people who have has WLS or have close friends who did. I decided to tell people I worked with (a school) and one sweet counselor told me her good friend has had WLS and some of the impact on her life.  One person just said "why don't you try WW?" and I just smiled - I'm sure a whole tree was used to make the WW cards and info I have used in my life.

I have been reading support group posts online and attended post op support group and all the info provided by CCMC Bariatric Program - I think I am aware of process but that doesn't mean I really get it.  My primary doc and school nurse where I teach (and a friend) think my idea of returning to work Jan 5 is too soon and I should give myself more time. I can do that and I will if I don't feel ready or if my surgery is more complicated than laperscopic as planned.  I have scar tissue from 30 year old gall bladder surgery and I am worried about that.

I'm 57 and have dealt with with weight issues all of my life. For 24 years I have been over 100 pounds overweight.  I am happy to join you all here and share experiences, thoughts and hope.  God bless you all!
